I bought some ebay valve covers in chrome. The holes cut into them aren't the same as my stock valve covers. The rear right valve cover pcv valve grommet is too big. The oil filler cap hole on the left cover is too small for the factory cap. Are you just supposed to replace it with a breather? Get rid of the hose running to the air cleaner?
Who knows about this sort of thing, and what, if anything, will happen without this hose? I have no noticeable blowby.

Get the right size grommet or get a different oil cap.
If you can't find the grommets at a parts place)Napa,Auto Value,C/T,
then
Go down to Western Motorsports on 11 st just North of the Mustang shop.
How much did you pay for the covers?
I could have got you a great Deal @ W. Motorsports
Oh yeah? What kind of deal could you have got me? I bought these for $9.99 US on ebay. (and that is all I bid on them a while back... didn't think I would win!)
I need to change valve cover gaskets anyway, so I thought these would 'go nice'.
I have been to Western Motorsport. Nice guys there! Seems like a whole lot of 5.0 stuff there, though...

Mr. gasket offers the correct grommets. One is for the PCV valve and the other takes a push in breather. You do away with the tube to the air cleaner. The reason that tube is there is so that you can filter the incoming air with the breather filter(small one in the air cleaner). The push in replacement has a filter built in it so there is no need for the tube any more. Just block off the hole in the air cleaner with a rubber plug.

See my 460 photos in my 77 gallery for what the valvecover breather looks like.
Thanks for that! I was wandering around Mopac today and saw a big assortment of nice breather caps; some even had the nipple for running the factory air tube! As for the pcv valve, how come I have seen engines without a tube back to the air cleaner? Are they venting crankcase emissions to the atmosphere? Will that affect performance? (not that I care too much about the atmosphere! LOL)
