That's normal if you believe what car manufacturers put in owners manual. My 07 5.4 uses 1/2 qt between oil changes [3000 miles]. Thru the years I have built a lot of engines and if they had used oil like these trucks do now, the customers would have brought them back!

I had an Expedition with the 5.4 that lost a quart every 1000 miles. According to Fords guidelines a quart every 600 miles was within the specifications and normal. I thought that was BS and got rid of that SUV. I bet if you look at your manual or call Ford they will tell you that this is OK. My truck has the 5.4 with 11000 miles and I change my oil every 5000 miles. My truck does not use any oil. I also use a full synthetic. A half to three quarters at 16000 miles seems to be a little high.

My truck has 16k miles on it and it doesn't use any oil.I use Motorcraft synblend 5-20 and change my oil every 2500-3000 miles.Sometimes I get bored and can't wait until 3k.

I have owned 6 Ford trucks, and none used any oil until this one. Drops 1 litre between 5000 km changings. Dealer says anything below 1 litre is ok, but sounds fishy to me.
Motorcraft 5w20 oil & filters each time. ???

Yeah, these modular engines are a little fickle. My '01 Expy 5.4 started burning oil after 50K miles...after 3000 miles there would be almost no sign of oil on the dip stick. Switching to mobil1 stopped that. My '06 Expy 5.4 has burned oil since the day she came home from the dealership, syn hasn't helped either (she's got that cam phaser ticking that the dealer can't seem to isolate...morons). My '02 4.6L GT never burned on syn and my '06 F150 is yet to start the burn on syn. Hope it stays that way.

My 2000 F-150 burned one quart every 3000 miles. My 2002 not one drop. My 2005, one quart every 3000 miles. All were 5.4's and they all ran fine.
