Question about running Dp tuner

Hello all
Al right so far I have the 6637 and the MBRP 4 inch exhaust. I soon I will be getting gauges and then the Dp tuner. I have heard alot about the BTS valve body what exactly is it and what does it do. Is it nessary to have with the Dp
Thanks

From what I understand the BTS VB is a mechanical (I don't know if that is the right term or not, as apposed to just increasing line pressures) way to firm up your shifts and help extend the life of your stock trans. It probaly does some other things too, that the others on here who know alot more will describe. Sounds like a inexpensive mod that will pay in the long run.

I would do the valve body and DP Tuner. Either Factory Tech (Gregg Evans) or BTS are great upgrades to your stock tranny.

Your tuner can increase the line pressure, but it is not supposed to be as healthy for the tranny as changing the valve body.

FYI- my tranny would slip a little under hard acceleration with cranked up chip and stock valve body. Changing the valve body made a tremendous difference. No slip and all go...

Make sure you let Jody at DP Tuner know about your plan to change the valve body. It makes a difference in how he sets up your tune.

You can also get a trango tugger kit and use that also instead of the BTS VB. I have no clue the price difference but they will both work well. You want to mechanically firm up the shifts a bit, then electronically a little bit. I do not have a BTS VB, but a transgo shift kit, and when i ordered my chip i told them i had the transgo. My truck shifts perfect!

Id go with the shift kit if your mechanically inclined. You can get the same effect as buying the VB, you just have to do the fine tuning yourself.

John Wood Valve Body $225 plus shipping from ITP. Get out your dad's credit card bc it is worth it.

The TransGo Tugger is about $100 shipped, but isn't for everyone. I have yet to put mine in because I keep teetering between pulling the tranny to install the entire kit, or just do the parts I can get to without pulling it and possibly do the rest at a later date. This kit modifies the accumulator VB (the one you get from BTS or wherever) as well as the main VB, the fluid pump, and the TC lock up pressure. The last two mods require pulling the trans, and I haven't been able to find the time to do it. I'm thinking I'll just do the VBs and see what that buys me. I'm getting tired of putting it off.

I was thinking pulling a "perfectly good" tranny was going to be a hard sell for a kid that can't drive (and I would guess isn't footing the bills). Then again if the kid can handle it tear it up!!!
Let us know how just the vb's work, bc if they work just as good as the others they are over half the price you could sell the other parts or just throw them away or install them "someday,"

When I ordered my Chip, Jody said that he programmed my tunes so I wouldn't need to do a valve body. That said, he also said that he would recommend the John Wood valve body as he has worked with John Wood on tuning that works best for the tranny. Do you guys stil think I need to do the valve body? I don't do a lot of towing now and tranny temps have been 140 or less. Shifts are alot crisper with the DP.

I had the Factory Tech VB before DP-tuner and it helped make my shifts better. Then with tuner & VB, it made it really nice.

I think it helps Jody get away with making you more power and not trashing your tranny if I understood him properly. Jody is the reason I went with the JW. That and I heard of a "reverse slush" with the BTS and a little weaker customer service.
BTW they are simple to install.

ITP Diesel. Look to your left in the sponsors section.

IMNSHO you should not waste money and do it right the first time. If you are never going to tow you may never need one...idk...I tow and people said I would be much happier with it so I trust them.

Remember! If you buy a chip and THEN install a vb you have to/should send the chip back in to Jody to get reburnt. (READ - Drive truck back in STOCK mode for two weeks AND pay to have the chip reburnt. I feel the money is too precious to me. If I was going to waste over $50 on this (besides the time to install, uninstall, and reinstall the tuner) I would just save it and be 20% of the way to the VB. Don't quote me on prices, but you will have $10 just in shipping and I would have to guess a reburn is right around $50 if I remember hearing correctly.

Sorry for the rant and PLEASE correct me if I am FOS.

EDIT TO RANT - You never NEED a VB, you're just are better off with one from what I have heard.

Since this looks like a major project I think I will just skip the Jw for now and when the time comes to do it I will just pay the $50. Thanks for your help guys
