Alternate bellhousing???
I ran across a 1977 460 today that had a definitive second bell-housing bolt pattern. I thought I had seen a chrysler 727 bolted to a 460 in a junkyard before, but, I had told myself that I was hallucinating due to the heat. Nevertheless, this block had drilled and tapped holes in this second bellhousing. What's the deal with this? Anyone else ever ran into this? Am deadly curious.

was it a 460 to sae #1 bell adapter for a medium duty truck? if so the second pattern should be almost round(like 390 only larger), and have mounting holes in each side. unless you are talking about more holes in the block itself!

Like WC76XT was saying its probably from a medium duty truck and the transmision if it was an automatic is possibly a allison transmission ford used this adapter to adapt the 370/ 429/ 460 to the Allison transmision, it should also have pads on the sides to mount it to the frame and the Allison uses a full circle bolt pattern Eric
