Thumbs down Cab Removal

I have removed the bed from my 1970 Ranger with little effort. The cab I am not so sure about. It looks as though only four bolts hold it to the frame, but I can't tell where the fenders attach to the cab. Can someone help me out?

The fenders are attached wit a bolt at the back side of the fender...you have to get at it from inside the front of the door jamb, it goes straigt into the inside of the fender towards the outside, the fender is also attached with bolts to the grille surround and along the top edge of it (you gotta open the hood to get to these ones)

Yup, there is one bolt in the center of door jamb(around where the light switch is sticking thru). Another at bottom(outside of truck). The front is held on from inside of fenderwell and outside(behind headlight bezel).

There will always be one you don't find til the fender won't come off!

I think you have to remove the fuel tank to get to rear mount bolts? Been alot of years since I pulled a cab. Not sure if they are visable with tank in the way. Tank is easy with a just a few bolts.

There are two under the tank, and two in the front of the cab that can be accessed through an oval plate. My front cap's off so access to the front bolts is gravy... not sure if you can get to them with the cap on.??

Bring penetrating oil.

Lots of penetrating oil, soak them a couple times a day for a few days before you try to loosen them. The front bolts are accessed through the wheel well with the cap on, but a lot easier to remove the cab after the front clip is unbolted....

Oldranger, the front clip isn't heavy at all, but to put it back together is a lot of fitment. If you can lift from over overhead try pulling the cab and front clip together. There are just two more bolts in the radiator support to remove and it will all come together. The clip may not weigh a hundred pounds. The cab a couple hundred or so. It is just bulky, and no good hand grab points.

Thanks for the advice. Bear with my ignorance, but when you say clip, you mean the fenders, grill shell, hood and all right? I alway called this portion the doghouse.

I have wondered what the heck folks were calling a dog house?

Yes, The cab, fenders, grill, radiator support, all can be lifted together. It's all sheetmetal and there isn't a lot weight, it just big and bulky.

There are two bolts under the radiator support and the chassis, just about like the 4 cab bolts. Remove the 6 bolts, the steering gear, tranny shift rod(s) if 3 spd. clutch rod if app., brake lines, and any wiring.

Lift it straight up and roll the chassis out from under.

Piece o cake.

Look up and to the left, click on User CP, edit gallery, and load your pictures there, anyone can click on your user and see them. That way huge photos don't gum up the threads and at any time they can be viewed.
