Post 370 Timing Specs

I have a 1986 F800 with the 370 V8, California engine. I'm trying to time the engine but I'm confused about the timing order and cylinder identification.

The book says Right bank 1-2-3-4, Left bank 5-6-7-8, firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8, distributor rotates counterclockwise.

The confusing part is the intake manifold is cast with cylinder numbers on the runners at the intake ports but they are opposite of the above.

Are the cylinders ID'd looking at the engine over the grill, drivers side is right, pass side left, or from behind pass is right and drivers side is left?

I've tried different methods to time it, but until I know WHERE number 1 is, I'm stuck.

I have spark and fuel but no fire. Not even a pop.

If you look at the front of the engine, the head on the passenger side of the car is further ahead of the one on the drivers side. The first plug on the passenger side head is #1.
