Just add a custom frame with Explorer disc brake 8.8, modified Ranger torsion bar suspension, 5.4L with 4 valve heads and 5spd. Just need to piece together a front clip and I think it could be a sweet ride.

Is interesting not sure what would be the best to do.
I guess my choice would be mild chop, modern frame, old fashioned rad, no hood and any performance motor of choice. My choice would be 239 with 3x2 of course but many other combos would do nicely.
The 6.8L V-10 would be another interesting option but did they offer a manual transmission in those trucks? The 6spd would have a lower first gear so you could drop some highway gears in the rear and still lay marks at the street light.

Can you make a fuel injected motor like the 6.0 V10 have the "sick" sounding idles. like the old gas racers? The V10 would be a cool idea, maybe it is just the showman in me but a car like this rodded out I expect a rough lobey idle before laying a patch.
If you have the money I'm sure you could get a custom camshaft made to do it. I don't quite know the limitations of the new EFI so I'm not quite sure how mean you could go. It would be neat if you could set it up with variable valve timing so you could make it purr like a kitten but hit a button and it's a whole different beast. Cause you know those engines that can't idle are dead under 3000 rpms.

Did a search on SGI and they got a 6.8 V-10 with 130 000kms for $2800 and a matching 4spd auto for $1530. My next project (street rod) is definitely getting the V-10.
Bah...If you want my respect at a car show you have to show me initiative and ingenuity. Sure a flatty is a step in the right direction but I want to see over the edge stuff, stock is for Gramps. A 3 carb setup was "trick" in the 50's but now it's just a standard catalogue item.
You know a traditional rod is the most expensive way to build a vehicle? Your pretty much only limited to parts made before 1970. This is why we have all these "rat rod" wannabes which are made from vehicle leftovers.

Thats what you call adding a bunch of plastic and 300 feet of wire?
I now the best parts were made before 1970 but today due to demand new age parts are being added to the arsenault. The 3x2 is the oldest trick and still the hottest rod out there, but I guess wires and plastic boxes are attractive also......
Fibreglass, wires and plastic I can see it now the mangled offspring result of a 1932 deuce and a Honda Civic.
Uh oh getting kinda nasty its been too long since our last scoufle.
