#4 Miss Fire

Today the engine light started to flash. I hooked the computer to it and came up with #4 miss fire. Well I have never changed plugs in an escape.
I aSSume it is like other 3.0s and the intake needs to come off to replace the plugs.

2002 V6 4wd

Anyone shed some light on this!

Well it turned out to be the coil on #4. But I replaced the plugs and boots while I was there because the vehicle has 130K at the time.

The plugs and boots were not as bad as other V6s. I took me longer to change the oil the plugs.

Yes, I had to pull the upper intake and that was pretty painless and gave you very good access to the plugs.

I did learn one thing, the intake gaskes are "reusable" HAHA! For $8.00 buy new ones and save youself some trouble.

I don't do plugs on those engines without quoting gaskets too. If the customer opts to go without new gaskets, I make it clear that if a problem develops after the repair, I never wanna see it in my stall because I had it on the quote to replace them.

Did you have any trouble starting the escape when this was going on? If not, did it start, then get rough, idle down and die?

It started just fine but idled rough for a few seconds and smoothed out. At highway speeds it ran fine would jerk once and a while. After about 20 miles the light stayed on and it must drop that cylender in the computer it ran good.

It should come as an intake kit.

Also, I'm willing to bet you have an injector going bad. Are you still getting that "early" start rough idle, then as the motor warms up it smooths out? We've been having problems with injectors in the 5.4L 3V engines doing that on cold start.

Autozone had the intake seals (all 6) from Felpro in one package and they looked like the OEM!
