Oil Changes

Haven't had this truck long and I was wondering that when changing oil about changing the oil in the HPOP. WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY to drain it or does this drain down to the pan.

some guy's like to suck the oil out of the HPOP.but its not a must do..if you do suck it out dry..you must refill it...most guy's just dump and refill the pan..its your choice..

The HPOP reservoir is fed oil from the LPOP. No need to change it separately, but a lot of folks like to. I did it once when I changed to syn, but it was a bit messy. There is a small access port on the top of the reservoir. You can open it with an allen wrench and sneak a thin tube in there to drain it if you like. A turkey baster kind of thing or syringe would do it, but thinking about it now, a long enough thin siphon tube run down to a drain pan would probably work and not be too messy.

I do it every time. Only about 80% of the oil is drained out when you change the sump, and that leaves 1/5 of the dirty oil to mix in there with the new oil. I drain the HPO reservoir when i do a oil change. I have a vacuum canister with a hand pump on it and a tube you can easily stick down into the reservoir and you get at least a quart out. Refill to the top and the injectors get a nice treat!

I've never changed the oil in my HPOP, some folks like Kris do it every time. It's really a matter of preference. One thing you may want to try is knocking a hole in the bottom of your oil filter to drain it before you go to unscrew it all the way. Easier to handle and smaller chance of spilling a bunch of oil.
