Hey guys, I have officially swapped motors. I traded in my 2004 6.0 for a 2002 7.3. The truck is identical to my old 6.0, same color, same amount of lift, 4 door crew cab short bed, lariat edition, just about everything. Plus they let me swap all of my custom parts, bumper, wheels, flares, grill, I even swapped seats and console since my 6.0 had buckets. Worked out pretty sweet!

I was having trouble trusting my 6.0, and when I saw this 7.3 sitting on the lot I couldnt pass it up. It has 80,000 miles, I dont see any major oil leaks (oil pan is clean) its seems to run great, its shifts a little harder than my 6.0 did, but that might be normal, not sure?

I took it for about a 30 mile drive up the highway, I got 20 mpg according to the lie-o-meter, wow! And this is with a 4inch lift. My 6.0 would have gotten like 14-15mpg. It came with a superchips programmer, and according to the owners records its been installed since 2003. This worried me a bit, however it has a EGT gauge intalled and he had written down on the box not to tow in the in the higher horse tune.. So this kinda showed he was keeping on eye on things. It doesnt have a gooseneck installed so he must not have towed anything too heavy. Would you guys be worried about this??? Also, should I get rid of it for something else?? DP tuner??

Also, Ive been running 5w-40 rotella synthetic in my 6.0, Should I run this in my 7.3?? Also how many quarts?? cus in our 6.0s we run about a qt less than what the owners manual said.

Also I think maybe I should do a trans fluid flush, Any certain fluid recemended??

Im obviously new to the 7.3 so anything else I should know would be very appreciated!! Thanks alot for any help! Oh, and by the way, I had an oasis report ran on it and nothing major showed up, so that was good.
You just accomplished what they do in Australia. A new body style with a 7.3l.

If customs wasn't so darn hard to get through...

this is me

this is them

Everyone at me..

If I was you I would have done the same thing I have been thinking about buying a new truck with a 6.0 and everytime I do I think what happens when this thing is out of warranty how am I gonna afford to pay to have it fixed or even find the time myself to repair it. Thats why Im just gonna keep my 7.3 and see how the 08 and up power stroke engines hold up

Just so you guys know, I wasnt suppose to swap everything that I did, I told them I was gonna swap wheels, bumpers and pull my flares....... well I took advantage of the situation, lol. But I can assure you they will never know, and what they dont know won't hurt them, lol. It is an awsome feeling though, I still feel like im in the same truck, just have a 7.3 now.

And thank you for the warm welcome, Im anxious to start learning about these beasts.

Ya LOL I would have done the same thing I was looking at a 02 F250 SC LB lariat 6 speed that was stock, was going to trade my truck for it. My truck has had new ball joints put in that are greasable and the 6 speed didnt. My truck is lifted and they were gonna let me swap all that stuff other My thought was that I would swap the entire front axle over as well so I could keep my perfect front axle that didnt have the junk stock ball joints, but I ended up not doing the trade because I would have throwen 8,400 away it sounds like you did a straight across trade and in my opnion got a way more reliable cheaper engine to maintain, Oil and fuel filters are cheaper for the 7.3 that right there is a bonus to me!

a-rod.

I ran the superchip for 4 years, thought it was fast. I got the DP-TUNER and the difference is unreal. The 80 econo is twice as strong as the hi-perf of superchip. The only thing is, you need to prep your truck for the DP. Intake, gauges, exhaust, BTS-VB then DP. Then you can run with your 6.0 buddies if not beat some of them.

Welcome to the 7.3 fourm.

I am going to lose this superchips and go with DP. My first two mods will be exhaust and intake, I have an EGT gauge so I guess I need to get boost and Tranny. BTS-VB ???? what is that? Thanks

Sounds like a good deal. You can run 5w40 syn in your truck if you want. I just switched to the syn this past fall, and it makes a huge difference in cold weather. Also, the oil capacity is 15 qts., not 4 gallons. I would flush the tranny and enjoy the truck! Oh, and another plus is, the filters are cheaper for the 7.3.

BTS= Brians truck shop,,,,,,,VB Valve body. Will help with the shifting and hopefully make the trans last longer. Shifts better for less heat.

Cool, I think I can handle that!

So I plugged my superchips in for the first time to see what program was downloaded, it was in the tow-mode. So I decided to set it back to stock, and wow it shifts 10 times better now. Power is only slightly down. I dont think Ill even plug this superchips back in, I would rather throw it in the garbage really. As soon as I get the exhaust straight piped and some kind of intake Ill get a DP-tuner.

I run the supership ( cann't aford the DP tuner YET ) and its always in the tow/perf mod even when towing my 10K TT. And the weird thing is it STILL doesn't get much hotter then 1050* cranking on it up a hill. If your going to do any tuner get the DP. I cann't talk from expereance but what I hear, its the best of the best. Don't throw the supership away its a good scan tool if your CEL comes on. Get some gauges if you get the DPTuner.
