Edelbrock generic?

I have heard people say that Edelbrock cams are generic. Are they not good cams or what is the deal with them? Are their heads and intakes generic as well or are there better alternatives?

Some cams are better than others....but it depends on what you want from your cam.Its all about lift, duration, and lobe separation as to what cam is right for your particular application.
Calling edelbrock "generic" is a matter of opinion I guess. I use edelbrock carbs and intake manifolds and am very pleased with them.

I did notice once the specs on the Blue Racer cams sold in JC Whitney where exactly the same as the Edelbrock specs, so they must be made in the same place, but that's not necessarily bad if that's what you need.

Many cams will have the same specs

The term "generic" sometimes means the cam lobes are a standard profile that used on several different model engines instead of a lobe designed for a particular motor. This is common throughout the industry, especially on the lower priced cams.

There are only a couple of companies that produce cam 'blanks' that are used by all cam grinders. They go to all the name grinders as what I would consider generic cams; everything is there, including the lobe case hardening, and all the grinders do is finish grind them to their marketed or custom specs. If you look at various cam grinder catalogs, you'll see that they all offer approximately the same grinds, usually within a couple of thousands lift or a couple of degrees of duration of each other under different proprietary names. Many are identical specifications.

Edelbrock has a large foundry operation and casts all their own heads and manifolds. They also assemble their own heads.
