Thumbs up F-150 mileage

I own an '05 Reg Cab,short bed,w/ 5.4L,3v engine. Recently,I drove a 200 mi. stretch of interstate with no stops.Afterwards,I drove to the local 'pushwater' station for a fill up.This included approx. 10 mi of city driving. After fill-up,the computed mi. was 21.47 MPG. City driving for this truck is at 15.8 MPG.

I have the same truck as a 04 and I can get almost that much when I baby it. I probably have more hills and mountains than you do.

If you are in an area where they have Winter Gas and Summer Gas, it will also effect your mileage

It might be your driveing style mixed with high altidue and hills.

I guarentee you, fast acceleration and accelerating or maintaining speed on hills will kill mileage.

But I have noticed, no matter the driving style, some trucks just don't get good mileage, and I do not unstand why?

The great thing about the 5.4 is the fact that mine came with a 37 gallon tank, I can drive to work all week and not worry about gassing her up. I get over 500 miles on a tank.

I had a 97 regular cab xlt with 4.6 and 3:08 gears that got 24 on the highway and 17 in town. (wish I still had it) I traded for a 2000 xcab xlt with 4.6 and 3:55 gears and got 17 hwy and 12 in town. I now own a 06 screw 4x4 with 5.4 and 3:73 gears that gets 17-19 hwy and 10-13 in town. The 06 is effected by driving style much more than the others were.

I just took a drive from Minneapolis to Phoenix. In phx i got bigger tires and a leveling kit. the best mpg on the way to phx was 19.59 on a tank, somewhere in the boonies in kansas (flat but windy). on the way back the best mpg for a tank was roughly 17 around the same area - better weather though allowed for going a lot faster - tracking mileage w/ the GPS. I got as low as 13 hwy w/ the big tires going uphill, climbing from phoenix (1400 ft altitude) to flagstaff (6500-7000ft altitude), with o/d off. truck had a full bed of stuff, me, my gf, and a dog. maybe 750 lbs total (cargo + people + 2 spare tires)

this is with 3.55 gears - which i am really starting to hate I wouldn't be surprised if my mpg goes up when I re-gear this thing.

aye... most pumps shut off at $75 on the credit card, and happens to my 30gal tank often... I'd have to swipe twice to fill up that thing...

agreed. I drive like neither Mario Andretti nor Granny Grunt. It's anywhere from 600 to 800 feet of elevation around here for several several several square miles (think corn).

IDK what it is. But I don't like it, that's for DANG sure!

Have '05 Scab 4x4 5.4L with Edge programmer. Live in Austin, Texas. I get 15.5 city with light hwy mix, 18.5 to 19 short hwy trips with cruise at 65-70 mph, and 21+ on extended hwy with cruise at 65-70 mph. This is with the Edge on lvl 2, running 89 octane, and timing bumped up 1.75. (I think that is a little higher than what the Edge manual recommends but does not cause any detonation)
