Need help with ambulance alternator

I was hoping someone would be able help me with a possible wiring problem. At my work our backup ambulance is a 94 e-350 7.3 and tonight we started having problems with it charging. The alternator is putting a 12.4 volts at idle which I know is low, but I think there might be another problem. I noticed two wire laying next to the alternator not connected and I was wondering if they should be connnected to the alternator. From what I can see in the cramped engine compartment there is the large red power wire on the left then there are two smaller terminals. The smaller terminal on the left has a wire connected to it. The small terminal on the right does not (this is facing the engine). I was wondering if anyone could tell if there should be a wire connected and if so which color. The loose wires are white and yellow. Any help would be great.

Thanks
Tom

Not too sure. I have had some exeprience with thes but bad memory. You probably have two alternators look under the bottom of the truck. There is an alternator near the crank pulley.

If it is a 215 amp alt you will have 2 threded lugs on the back and one plug the larger of the lugs is the battery wire the smaller one is for a ground... the 2 wire plug goes on the regulater wich if it is unpluged the unit wil not charge One wire on that plug excites the feild in the unit plug it back in if the tab is brocken on it buy a replacement end and wire it in and it should work look at my recent pix at my 215 amp alt

Mine has the 215 amp. Like earnies said, it has two studs on the back. One for the hot and one for the ground. It also has a plug with 2 wires. One goes to a 30 amp fuse under the hood and the other I believe goes to the gauge in the dash. Check your fuses.
