Where does your volt gage run at?

Mine has been running at the "a" in normal since I replaced my altenator. Does this sound about right? I don't want it to overcharge.

Mine runs between the M-A in NORMAL. Older ALT few years at least. I would think a new one could run around the A and not have any issues. Wait for a few more to chime in there with new ALTs but i think your ok... Just my .02

When you changed the alternator did it come with a new voltage regulator? I wouldn't trust that gauge on your dash to be certain check the voltage output with a volt meter

I just changed out my alternator and it is running between the M-A. I checked the output voltage just as WALJON suggests and my out put is about 13.5 volts. I agree that you should not rely on what the gauges say. They can be wrong.

I haven't changed my ALT, so it's at least five years old, if not older. It swings between R-M-A depending on load.

How do you test it without removing it and taking to NAPA or AutoZone?

Stock gauges are not very good. Put a multi-meter on the battery and start the engine and see how much it is charging.

My alternator puts out around 14.5 volts I can see it on my ford Idle control box I have in the cab,it has a button you can press and see the output from the alternator and my stock gauge holds around the m mark on the normal after the glow plugs cycle
