Took the bed off the 60 and found a weakened frame.
Surprise and dismay. The passenger side rail behind the cab looks bad.
Notice the mount is partially eaten away.
Also, those two small dark patches on top of the rail are indeed holes eaten all the way through.
Monitor craigslist.com for what you need, also Show Me 100's club in Springfield, Mo may be able to help. There are others here that can tell you what years that covers the frames that are the same as yours and the best way to cut and weld the repair if you chose that direction.Have a great day, chuck
I went out last fall looking for a bed and brought home a whole truck. Looks like I need to take a closer look at that spare truck.
Granted I am pretty new to this stuff, but I would have thought a cut/patch/weld to the frame would be easier then pulling everything off and putting it on a different frame.
Of course my thought has not been a frame off restoration, but a cleaned up daily driver.
I think that you will find that it's not that big of a job removing the cab/bed/front end off a frame. You wouldn't be the first among us to start out a "wash & wax" project and end up with a frame-off restoration!
Short be or long bed frame? I have a 59 or 60 long bed frame that is in EXCELLENT condition. Frame only with all cross members and spring mounts $200 in Akron Ohio. Let me know.
