Help: I purchased a 2005 F-350 6.0L 67K miles this summer. I have driven it 4000 miles with out a hitch! Started plowing snow this winter lost reverse, Transmission gernaded inside breaking the the case. Is this a weak link in these SUPERDUTY FORDS or am I just having some bad luck??? Ford quoted nearly 5 Grand to install a reman. Any imput or advise would be appreciated
Something I would not want to hear, but in the book you should have changed the tranny oil. I had a 2005 and most of the liquids needed changed prior to or around 50k miles. Add that to the tremendous stress that snow plowing puts on a truck and it looks like you had some bad luck. At $85.00/hour in most north garages, it doesn't take long to get to 5K$ for labor and remanuf. tranny. Good luck.
Norm:
I think it only started with the 2008's. I just pulled my window sticker on my 2005 and as I said: 36/36BUMPER TO BUMPER
That was one of the big selling points for me to buy a 2008. They start with the same 36, and then say:
(on the window sticker) 5yr/60,000 powertrain;
and then in a separate "2008 Warranty" document it says: "6.0/6.4LPower Stroke V-8 Turbo Diesel Engine 5/100,000.
A couple comments. A litany of exclusions on the 100,000 mi portion. And the way I read it, emissions up to 8/80,000, but engine only to 100K mi.
Reference; Price: Jasper will sell you a rebuilt 5R110W with a 3 year warranty for $2962.00.
How many people have the ability and tools to R&R a transmission of this size. My bet is that "out the door repair" will leave little change from $5,000.00, and best buy would be from reliable vendor and warranty.
Thanks fellow FORD fans, I was looking at the owners manual and 36/36 is the warranty for the 05 psd! Oh well I guess I have to bite the bullet on this one, I just afraid of it going again, doesn't sound as though theres a history of this problem.
I have a good friend who works on A/T and he is installing a rebuild for just under $4k
