I am about to trade in my '04 PSD CC Lariat for an '07 CC Lariat FX4. I have had nothing but great luck with my '04 and absolutly love the truck but I have gotten it stuck for the last time and I am moving on to a 4x4. I have never had a 4x4 on a truck before but also never had the weight of a deisel up front and that makes all the difference.
I know all about the inerior changes between the year models (some I like some I don't), but have they done anything of notice to the 6.0 deisel? I know these forums are a typical place to post problems and I see very little on the '07. However, if I could, I would pull my '04 motor as it has been flawless and has only been in the shop for the recall items. I have run the superchips econo tune with a MBRP exhaust (turbo back with cat) and intend to do the same with this truck.
I can only assume Ford and International have worked out the bugs by now and should be a better motor.
Is there anything I should expect that is different with the '07?
05-07 no longer have leaf springs up front. Better turning radius now and will ride 100% better than your 04. The 07 has all the improvements to the 6.0 from lessons learned 03-06. It is also the commonized engine before the switch to the 6.4. Great truck and will get better fuel economy than the 08 6.4!
Just picked it up and so far so good. It does ride a lot better but not sure if it is the 20" wheels or the front springs (maybe both). I was not fond of the white bezzle on the speedo and tach but looks better at night.
I have been really lucky with my '04 and have not heard any real praises over the '08's and Ford is very proud of these trucks. I like some of the styling on the '08 but not willing to pay an extra 20k for a 1 year newer truck.
Now I need to find out if this FX4 is all it is cracked up to be.
Congrats! I've got an 07' and it's a dream(cc lb lariat Fx4). How many miles are on your 07'? Hey ripnlips, what do you mean by the 07' being commonized? Is this in reference to Ford and International working out the bugs from the previous 6.0s?
Here's the commonization info courtesy of our mod Maxium4X4
Subject: 2006 6.0L Diesel Power Stroke Cylinder Head Commonization Effective Date: Ford Production Assembly Plants - January 11, 2006 Kentucky Truck Plant (Super Duty) & Lorraine Assembly Plant (Econoline) Description Changes are being made to the 6.0L diesel cylinder head, head gasket, crankcase block, rocker arm carrier and injector hold down clamps for the 2006 Super Duty and Econoline Program. The action is taking place to facilitate/communize the International manufacturing process for the upcoming 6.4L program. The 2006 6.0L used in Ford vehicles after January 11, 2006 are being referred to as "Commonization Engines". Part number details are provided on a separate excel spreadsheet. Figure 1 - New cylinder head 1. Carrier boss bolt holes M10 x 1.5 2. Injector clamp bolt holes (relocated) The new cylinder heads have several casting changes including a slight injector clamp bolt hole relocation (2, figure 1) and the carrier boss bolt hole size and location changes (1, figure 1). New cylinder heads also use 32 mm cup plugs replacing the old 28 mm cup plugs. The cylinder head gasket is also new to accommodate the new 20mm cylinder head location dowels. Pre commonization head use 18mm dowels Note: At this time the new cylinder head assembly is not interchangeable with the previously level head. Figure 2 – Previous Level Cylinder Head 1. Carrier boss bolt holes M8 x 1.5 2. Injector clamp bolt holes (original locations) Note: The previous level cylinder head assembly is not interchangeable with the new head. Figure 3 - New Block Assembly The new crankcase (block) uses two 20mm cylinder head locating dowels per head. The old crankcase (block) uses two 18mm cylinder head locating dowels per head. Note: The new and old block assembly is not interchangeable. This affects replacement of all 6009 short blocks and the 6010 bare blocks. Rocker Arm Carrier: Figure 4 - New Rocker Arm Carrier Casting changes to the rocker carrier provide increased clearance for new injector hold down clamps (figure 6). The new carrier also uses only 2 bolts and locating dowels to attach the carrier to the head. The new rocker carrier is serviced in a Rocker Arm Carrier Kit which includes the rocker carrier cover, gasket and necessary dowels. Note: The new and old rocker arm carrier kits are not interchangeable. Figure 5 – Previous Level Rocker Arm Carrier Kit The old rocker arm carrier uses 4 attaching bolts to hold the carrier to the old cylinder head (figure 2). The previous rocker arm carrier is also serviced in a kit which includes the rocker carrier cover, gasket and necessary dowels. Note: The previous level rocker arm kit is not interchangeable with the new kit and will remain available for service. Injector Hold Down Clamp: Figure 6 - New Injector Hold Down Clamp Assembly The tail end of the new injector hold down clamp is being reduced to avoid interference with the rocker arm carrier wall. Injector hold down clamp bolt torque will increase from 24 lbf·ft to 25.8 lbf·ft and bolt head size will increase from T40 to T45. Note: The new and old injector hold down clamps are not in interchangeable. Figure 7 – Previous Level Injector Hold Down Clamp Assembly Note: The new and old injector hold down clamps are not in interchangeable. The old injector hold down clamp will remain available for service.
I traded my 2000 gmc diesel for a 07 cc lariat fx4 6.0 and WOW what a contrast between the two. I love this new ford and so far so good (knock on wood) this truck is the bomb. The 6.4 was an option for me but the hugh difference in the price was crazy. I have a fully loaded Lariat with sunroof , 20" wheels you name it this truck had it. $44,000 out the door price. Enjoy your new 6.0.

Congrats on the new truck. I bought my '07 HD on New Years Day '07 and @ about 15,000 miles today no problems except the dealer not putting the hub caps on correctly causing me to lose the 2 front caps on the way home from Laughlin! Took them 4 months to get the right HD caps, then they still couldn't figure out how to put them on correctly. As for the ride...... it's the front springs, not the 20's that make it smoother. 20's actually stiffen up the bumps and handling, they are useless for airing down for off-road use but they do look nice. My Weld Cheyenne 8's in 17 x 10 were just delivered so I'll be changing them out soon as the DR 7" lift goes in.
Day 3 and overall very pleased with the ride. The truck had 15,500 miles on it and got it for $36k. The only thing it doesn't have is the moon roof and I am okay with that as I never had good luck with those over the long haul (leaks, drive motors konked out). It is a Lariat CC FX4 with 20" factory wheels, chome package, slinding rear window, 6 cd, movable pedals etc.
I have identified a handfull of minor problems and will keep driving it for a couple of weeks and then take it into Ford and see what they will do about them. The problems so far are:
- slight shimmy in steering wheel at 57 mph
- seat bolt cover on passerger seat is broken
- right front speaker has no sound
I figure Ford will probably take care of all but the plastic bolt cover. And none give me any reason to be concerned about the truck.
One thing I am looking for is a brush guard and I saw a killer looking one that was in beige powder coat but cant seem to locate where to get one. Anyone have some suggestions? My truck is dark stone with arizona beige lower and the beige brush guard would tone done all that chrome up front.

Reason: fat fingers
Pyrexic......I had removed my seats to install my stereo system and the bolt cover on the passenger side was mutilated because of it, anyway I told my service rep. about it and it was replaced under warranty as well as the blue oval on the front grill...service rep. noticed it was peeling and stated they have seen alot of them like that. I told her it happened after a long road trip from a rock that flew into it and knew that wouldn't be covered (road hazard?), the rep insisted I have them replace it under warranty.
I traded my 96 PSD for my new 2007 F350 Lariat last April and in June with 1200 miles on it I loaded a 10ft truck camper on it and headed for Alaska. 12000 miles later and back home in Montana I'm still thinking this is the best!
I picked up a 2008 F350 for a friend and kept it here until he could pick it up. Had the chance to get familiar with it. Nice truck but I think I'll keep my 07 for a lot more years unless something real bad happens to it.
