Just got a 2001 Crew Cab with the 5.4 Just wondering what kind of gas mileage everyone else is getting?? My truck is stock with the exception of some brand new BFG all- terrains. I am getting about 11mpg, with mostly highway driving. Just wondering if this is about the norm?? thanks!!
That might be an option too....... I am also noticing that the tranny seems to be slipping a little too, so I am guessing that might have an impact as well. Any guesses on roughly what that costs to remedy?
The best I have gotten in mine is 13.5 on the highway to atlanta at 80mph. I can take a trip down regular roads at about 65 mph and get about 15. Once you cross 2k rpms the epa takes a nice hit. I have the same rig as you.
MPG are more related to speed than RPMs. The force required to move an object through air increases at the square of speed. Keep it under 65mph and you'll do way better.
The best I do is high 15's to 16 MPG when highway driving.
11 is way low. Tune up your engine, clean the injectors, replace your fuel filters, replace your air filter and check your catalytic converter for restrictions.

Is there a way to check your cats for restrictions, short of removing them and a flashlight? Thanks.
ok, so, after pondering this all day, i have come to the conclusion that its prolly just the transmission slipping. i floored it earlier, and it took forever to shift from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd, so i am gonna take it in and have them check it out, i'll let you guys know what they say though. thanks again for the help!!!
Ok, here is another question. Im turning 2000 RPM's at 60mph- 70mph.. im guessing that the RPM's should change a little more with 10 mph difference??? just wondering what other people are turning with 5.4 4x4s???? thanks!!
At 65 mph I sit dead on 2k. At 70 mph I sit about 2300. I still haven't looked to see what gears I have. My inside door doesn't have a lable. Truck has been painted.
