If you are expecting performance out of a 6500lb family SUV then maybe we should re-look at what we bought and why we bought it. I bought it to tow and to haul the family around. If I want to get of the line the I jump in the Z06. I just don't understand what the importance is of "getting off of the line" is? If your towing in the mountains then I could see changing shift points possible so not to be as rough on the transmission but I would have bought a F250 or F350 if I needed a towing upgrade. Maybe I am missing the point. Gas mileage yes, performance enhancement no.
nolyaw--I respect your opinion--. If it is tough to get that 08 away from a light, you really need to have it checked/diagnosed. Makes me really glad I went for an 07 used EB EL. Its tough not to get away from the lights good. Under most conditions, since I have not tried to "line er up" against any mustangs or such, I can easily stay with traffic. It is actually more impressive than my 460 van was and is a good 1000# heavier with a lot less motor. In fact, the off-line jump, because of that low gear is great. As I said, I dont judge the speed of this compared to my 427 vette with 3.73 gears.
All that said, I still am interested in the info about the tuners and I live in Longwood fl where I think SCT is.
Throttle response sucks. I am comparing it to my Titan I used to have, the Armada my wife used to have, and the Sequoia I wanted before she chose this Limited. The 16k off sticker made that decision for us. If other people did not believe that it takes alot of effort to get this pig moving, then there would not be companies that retune it. All the reviews of the EL in the rag mags also stated that it takes a lead foot to make it feel lively, and I agree. I am not trying to be a racer with this, but the once or twice a week I drive it, it's a dissapointment. Rides nice, but heavy and labored. What's with the plastic pigs? Did'nt like those sweet Tahoes?
Ah Ha! Again the plot thickens . It appears you dont like fords to start with. I would guess that a gold plated EL with a Turbo'ed V10 or a diesel would still be a pig to you. Is this a great country or what , we can have our opinions. Thats really great, we can all buy what we want to and I did. If you are not happy with the "pig", then I would suggest you get rid of it. Mine, however, is not a pig, it is a ~6500# all purpose vehicle that will haul 8 people in relative comfort and will tow up to ~9000# and get decent mileage. As Z06PSI said, an F350 could be better----mostly for towing.
They make tuners for everything--maybe for some of the very newest. That tells me that they all can use some improvement. One thing for sure is that If I buy a tuner, it will be based on my own criteria considered against expected returns for the $$$$.
Tahoes? I looked at them and considered them against the regular Expys. Also looked at the surburbans for a comparison to the EL's. The burbs had some points that I liked better than the EL's and same for some points of the EL over the Burbs. I think the one deciding factor was the burbs 3rd row seats were a pain to get out and in. But then thats subject to opinion, isnt it.
Lets not beat this to death, if I respect your opinion will you respect mine?
Well the 2009 S/C Bullitt and 2007 GT500 in my garage beg to differ with the opinion of not liking Fords. They are always my FIRST choice...when I see stuff I don't like, I look elswhere, but always come back to the Blue Oval. I respect your opinion, but mine is still a pig...
Anyone ever start swapping gears in the expy's. I was disappointed that that my 08 EL has a higher ratio than the standard body, I don't do any towing. I would like the lower rev's on the highway. I have a 08 Mustang GT Vert manual with the stock lower ratio and I enjoy that my Stang gets 26-28MPG highway.
Do the tuners give control over the tranny shift parameters? My main interest is the downshift to 1st, which is the subject of concern and a TSB or 2. It seems the tranny (6 speed) does not downshift until full stop, but when "loaded" with the throttle a little will cause a fairly rough downshift. I would like to maybe see a normal downshift at somewhere around 5 mph, even though I do not have the problem some experience with that shift. My acceleration grins were from my 427 vette which had a syncro 1st, so not a problem
