Hey everyone I have a couple quick questions and I need some opinions. I rebuilding my 400 out of my 78 2wd F-150. It's gettin a set of 4v cleveland heads, cam and intake and all the other goodies. I was wondering on what water pumps and starters works the best? What about gaskets, I know everyone has there different likes/dislikes, but just seeing what people suggest? I will also be getting rid of the colum shifter. What a nightmare trying to shift with that thing at the strip. I'm looking a Hurst Promatic 2 or a B&M Pro-Stick. What would you guys suggest would go good with a c6? Thats reliable and wont miss any shifts. Thanks
Since it seems you are building a strip truck, the 4V heads should work fine. I would say if you use it more on the street, to get some 2V Aussie quench heads. Factory starters always worked well for me on 335 series. (My only starter troubles were with 460 engines, when warm)
You will also want a good stall converter, at least 2500-3000 for the 4V heads, to go with a good built C6.
Any decent shifter should work for you. See how different shifters feel and what they offer for options.
Water pump? I have always used factory, and they last me many, many miles, but the other companies out there are good too.
Ill be running about a 4000 stall behing my 400. Ive been a member on the 351cleveland forum for about 6 months now and have learned more then i ever knew, just scared to ask with all those guru's. Thank you for your help
Haha! I've been there for a few years, and those guys are great. I haven't contributed much since I sold my last 351C car, but I know that if I want real world experience, I can get it there. There are guys on par with my experience, and guys that go waaaay beyond with exotic builds, but they are all there to help out. True Ford gear heads too, which I like!
