I don't know, but lately I've been reading (in published performance magazines) that the later 460's were retarded 8 degrees, not 4! Who can confirm this?

I heard that too, and I know that some of the small blocks were, but my '86 460 was retarded 4 degrees. I checked it.

I learned a ton that I am going to post in a minute.

Thanks for all the help and feedback.

dpoelstra -- my 86 460 that's in Harrison was retarded 4 degrees, too. Hey --- here's some of my "straight up" timing gear pix if anybody is interested...harrisonhttp://www.beedzncomputers.com/truck/engine/timing/timing.html (remove the word harrison to make the link work)

I dunno, check the application. We were discussing the timing gear timing on a stock cam.
