Question Cowl problems

The (2) piece cowl,that covers the wiper motor and linkage,has popped out of place on the drivers side.I tried pushing it back down,which just snaps in place,but it keeps popping out.When i'm traveling down the interstate,usually at 65-75 mph,it bounces up and down acting like it will go airborne! Has anyone else had this problem on there 04-07 F150? I'm going to take it to the dealer this weekend!

mine pops out slightly but not enough to shake at highway speeds...I have never really tried to fix it.

I think this is a common problem. Mine does it also. There was a GREAT post about a very cheap and simple fix on here about 2 months ago. Try doing a search and it should come up.

I found it, this was posted by "the4by4freek":

I don't have an answer for your wiper not clearing, but I do have a fix for your cowl. Open your hood and get a #8x1/2" stainless steel screw. Put your cowl into position and right behind the weatherstripping ,where the 2 halves go together, you will see a little raised square. It will be on the drivers side section. Insert the screw into the middle of the little square. The cowl sits on plastic. I inserted a srew in mine and it hasn't moved in a long time. You can't see the repair unless you are looking for it. It looks factory. I also posted this on F-150online and another user put up pictures. He followed my directions and is pleased with the results.

I had the same problem when I purchased my 06 SCREW used. My clips were broken not the push tabs which is what you can see from the top. They had to remove the windshield to replace them. Also if you end up having to replace the part like I had done make sure you inspect the area area around the windshield before you accept it. A day or 2 after having the work done I noticed the paint was rusting through around the top where the scratched the paint when removing and replacing the windshield. Had to take it back and have them fix the paint which also required the winshield to be removed. My dealer told me it was a windshield shop that removed and replaced it the first time. Could have been bad luck but just letting you know.

Common problem. The left and right pieces on mine would separate and bang against the windshield making noise as I drove down the road. The ford dealer wouldn't do anything about it so I finally glued them together with black gasket sealer. You can see the glue if you look really close at it but at least I no longer hear that noise.

There is a screw which locks the one side in place over top of the second piece. If memory serves me right, it locks the passenger side over the driver side cover, but I may have that backwards. The screw goes through a tab in the one peice and into the firewall. If you had your windsheild replaced, there is a chance that they did not re-install the screw which is causing your problems.

Had the same problem with mine. I just put a small screw in the lip where the two pieces fit together in the center. No more problems.

I don't think I have ever had a problem with mine. I will have to take a look at it.

Same problem w/ mine. Anyone ever have a dealer actually fix this problem without creating more issues? The screw idea is sounding good right now. Just pi$$es me off to have to perform that kind of fix on an '07 vehicle.

Thumbs up

I just returned from my local Ford dealer.My cowl is fixed! The TSB # is;
07-24-5
If you own a 04-07 built before 11/12/07 then this concerns you.It is a simple adjustment of the "J" hooks under the cowl which attach to a sheet metal flange under the cowl.The cowl panel has to be removed to make the adjustment.It took the tech about 20 minutes to fix the problem.He pulled on the cowl to make sure it would stay in place,which it did.
