Coolant leak

This morning when I left for work in my 91 f150 with a 5.8 in a 15* windy icebox I got no heat out of the truck with is rare to say the least. I found out when i got to work that it was low coolant that caused the problem. I topped it off and everything seemed fine. THat is until my ride home. I got all kinds of smoke from under the hood along with the fresh burning anitifreeze smell. I fear that it is the head gasket as a large portion of the passenger side bank it wet. i can't really see anything leaking but i know the heater core lines are good. could it be a freeze plug if it even has them. It runs great and there is no white smoke or anything from the exhaust. has anyone else seen this or can you point me in the right direction to look into the problem. Thanks

I had an old T-Bird with similar symptoms...had to replace the heater core itself

it has freeze plugs.

do coolant pressure test.

do compression test.

check oil for water.

do not drive truck until you know what the problem is.

A leaking coolant hose going to the throttle body can cause the passenger side head to get wet ==as can a leaking thermostat housing. I had the same thing happen to my truck and I saw it all wet on the passenger side--but it was a leaking coolant hose going to the throttle body. Take a trouble light and check under the thermostat housing--behind and on top of the water pump--if it is wet--suspect the thermostat housing gasket or the throttle body hose.

Quicklook2 called it. It's not good to drive when oil and coolant are mixing. (It's not good to let it sit with a bunch of coolant in the oil, either).

I know it isn't the thermostat or throttle body. I am pretty sure that it is the intake gasket. there is a puddle along the whole intake on pass side and it is well above the head gaskets. i checked the oil first thing so i also know that is good. i am 99% sure that it is the intake. with 244,000 miles i am sure the gaskets are close.
