New Pump?

I have been having a lot of trouble with keeping my truck up and running. I am able to get my truck started when I put fuel in the fuel filter, but it will not stay running very long and the filter goes almost empty.
I was sure it was probably air in the system, however I have primed the system and it still quits running after a short time that it takes to empty the fuel filter.

I have thought of installing an electric fuel pump, but I would like some feedback on this, and also what is the approx: cost to install a new or rebuilt Injector Pump??
I was told they are not cheap, so I am looking for some feedback.

Thanks,
Tom

If you are going to put an electric fuel pump on, then I would say do it. The IP sends fuel to the injectors, you seem to not be able to get it there. Try your fuel pump first before you spend $400 or more to ge an IP.

There is a lift pump, looks like a gasser mechanical fuel pump that transfers fuel from the tank to the fuel filter.

You may need a new lift pump.

The electric pump would replace the mechanical lift pump.

If it starts and runs after filling the fuel filter, I would say the injection pump is fine.
Injection pumps run about 400+ dollars.

You could be sucking air in a leak in the fuel supply line somewhere between the tank and the lift pump.
How much fuel in the tank?
If it is below 1/3 tank, the fuel pickup tube could be broken in the fuel tank.
If that is the case either keep the tank over 1/2 full or drop the tank and repair the tube.

Thanks for the responses. I am going to install and electric fuel pump this weekend and see if that solves my problems. I just need to get fuel up to the fuel filter and then I think I will be ok.

My truck has been sitting for 3 weeks now and I am getting anxious to drive it again.

Also can you still buy injection pumps at your local Ford Dealer? or where is the best place to buy them.

TIA,
Tom

When you put an electric fuel pump on it, you need to take the mechanical pump out and use a Chevy Big Block blockoff plate to cover the hole.

Still available at my local dealer, they even have a couple in stock.

Online, www.mwfi.com has a good reputation.

Do remove the mechanical lift pump when you install the electric pump.
A ruptured diaphram in the mechanical pump would let fuel into the oil pan, not a good thing.
