For truck in sig, the following occurs only when cold (-20C and below):
Engine turns over strong and will usually start for 10 seconds idles very weak (like it's going to die) and then does die.
Fuel smell is present.
Turn the key to off, floor the pedal, cranks and starts within 3-4 seconds and idles smoothly.
Flooring the throttle at engine crank speed will turn off the fuel injectors and allow the engine to clear itself of gas. Just like flooring the throttle of a carbureted engine.
It would suggest that you have a leaking injector (s) that is causing the engine to load up after setting over night. But this wouldnt explain why this problem is temperature sensitive.
Check for DTCs/ EEC IV fuel injection trouble codes--perhaps one of the temperature sensors or other sensors (IAC) have a problem.

thanks phoneman....was doing some reading, what about a faulty fuel pressure regulator?
I would think that a fuel pressure regular that is permitting too much pressure could enrichen the injector too much and cause a rich condition. But would thiink that this would occur regardless of the temperature of the engine. Try getting the trouble codes first and see what they are-- if you even have any.
Does the crank case smell of gas--can you smell gas on the dipstick??e
Pull the vacuum hose off of the fuel pressure regulator and see if there is gas in the vacuum hose--if so--the FPR isnt any good.

I totally agree with this. No fuel smell in crackcase, will check codes
