The late 460s, 1972 and on, were pretty anemic with lower compression and their numbers were unimpressive. The early 460s had 10.5 :1 compression and 365 hp at 4600 and 500 ft/pounds @ 2800.
don't forget that they changed the way the rated the HP too, the difference isn't nearly as big as the numbers look like. If you take the early 460s everyone raves about as a reason to switch to early heads etc you find that they actually only put out about 250hp by 72 standards of rating power (Crank hp vs net) it's been a long time since I seen them but someone dyno'd a 73 460 and it was actually only like 15hp less then the 71 even with the drop in compression and the retarded timing etc (but without all the emissions controls)
But Bear, did you notice when the original post was dated??? old old thread LOL
