Saw a spark

I was loading my truck tonight and left it idling, and I happened to look at the exhaust when a spark shot out of the tailpipe. It was glowing orange, not bright yellow-white, so I figure it wasn't a metal fragment. Truck's running fine and didn't make any noise when the spark shot out. Could it be just some carbon or soot buildup that burned and got loose? Is this a fairly normal occurrance with diesels?

You do have a much larger exhaust so sparks may be possible..... carbon most likely.

Never noticed it on one of my trucks, but on lots of old tractors I've got with real short pipes do that often, I freaked the first time it happened, but I'm used to it now.
