does anyone know how much can be taken off of a v-10 head. mine has a little groove between water jacket and combustion chamber. also, do you have any idea what could cause this. head gasket looked fine except for where you could see that the water was getting by. metal on gasket was only discolored
Don't shoot me for saying this, but once I poked a hole in my timing cover with a screwdriver. Just for fun I put some JB weld over it and it sealed it perfectly and years later it still didn't leak. Might work for you.
aluminum cylinder heads can be repaired "easily" unlike cast iron heads. take it to a reputable machine shop and they can either weld it for you or point you in the right direction, no offense to the skyguy, but DO NOT JB weld your head.

dropping head off in the a.m. guy said $50.00 and i can have it back in the afternoon. now i still have to get gasket set-- fel-pro is about 260 for the set. wish me luck--
anybody have the torque specs and pattern for these things?
More than a torque spec and pattern, you need new bolts too... They are "torque-to-yield" meaning they have already given their all. Do it again, and they will stretch and stretch and stretch...
I'll see if I can find something in the morning - if you don't hear from me, just post here again to remind me
thank you sir! that's exactly what i needed. as far as the bolts coming with the gasket set-- i am not sure. i did see the bolts themselves listed for 74.00
I would never recommend Jb welding anything on your head, but it is amazing stuff. I once had a 305 chebby motor that broke the top of the valve guide off, so I figured give it a try before replacing the head, glued it back on there and drove it for 4 years and it was still holding, when I sold it! Amazing!
picking up heads tomorrow- got both planed and 12 out of twenty exhaust manifold studs removed after they broke off at various levels and depths. cost 190 for all of the work. getting gasket set for 179 and head bolts ( all 24 ) for 150. i guess i'm glad i can do this job myself. dealer shows 24.8 hrs. @ 80.00per hour and they don't have heads planed-- they replace them. should be going back together this weekend.
