Vancouver BC, Canada
{Yikes I keep this up and will have to start a Vancouver thread]
Anyway, Finally, can't say enough for the Vancouver area.. Been to Whistler, Went up on Grouse in December one year, got Christmas-card-like photos because they had snow up there while none down lower of course. Went to Victoria, all that. Actually experienced 2 seasons in one day my first time out there. The traffic was something else.. Boundary Rd no matter what time of day stunk-- Anyway with that outstanding transit out there (Billed as one of the best in Canada or even N. America) was suprised by the volume of traffic-- but then again it's all about schedules and timing. My friend in Burnaby got herself a car, yet she lives right near Brentwood Skytrain stop and works on Haro downtown which is near a stop-- yet she prefers to drive. Oh well.
Have a good one!

Plus it'll take you about 2hrs for a one way trip to surrey. I can drive there for about the same in gas, and do it in 45 mins.
I like Grouse, just because it is the only mountain that is 100% accessible by transit, the Sky-ride alone is worth the trip by itself in the winter. In the summer for the truely brave, do the Grouse Grind
Boundry road isn't nearly as bad as Richmond (Little Hong kong), Not wanting to sound bad, but NO ONE in Richmond knows how to drive...
I do love my town though...
Oh now I see what you meant by transferred to BC Vancouver thread. Took a few minutes to follow the trail. Up too late I guess... Looks like TransLink went down hill, but then again I used it just for the Vancouver metro area.. And I haven't been there since Dec 04 unfortunately. Was going to go last summer but had to fix up the F 150 and the airline prices are through the roof in peak season.
Not like my second through fifth trip out there. Flew to Seattle, rented a car right out of the airport and drove the four hours to whatever hotel in Vancouver. All that was cheaper than direct flight to YVR.
Those fares are in line with what they charge here in Western MA, and a little more than Boston's MBTA. Off Peak. (There you can take a subway from their westernmost station in Cambridge and ride deep into the city for $2, one way adult. That is far better than trying to drive into that city, and once you fight your way through those lunatic drivers good luck finding somewhere to park.
But that's not as far as N. Van to Surrey if I remember right.

Even with gas around $1.07 to $1.20 p/liter (about $5 p/gallon) it is still cheaper for me to drive my F150, than it is to take Translink. Parking, well I can always find cheap or free places to park, even if I have to walk a little farther.

And look at the mountains covered in Snow.

Thanks for the two web site links.. Yes I can see why people drive instead of ride the transit now, with those prices. Down here they cite gas prices, insurance and taxes as well as maintenance as counterweight to cost of transit.. But here the cost of the buses and such is less. But the scheduling doesn't often mesh with work schedules, etc.
