Exhaust/Header gaskets

Well, this is probably elementary to some of you, but I would rather ask a stupid question and do it right. I recently bought a 77 F-150 with a 460 in it. I am needing to replace the exhaust gaskets. I am wondering if I can use stock style/size gaskets even if I have headers instead of stock manifolds. Also, I was curious as to what type of gaskets I should get. I dont want to be cheap and get what I pay for, but I dont want to pay more for overkill. Lastly, is it a safe, acceptable, or beneficial practice to use Loctite or similar product on the bolts here? Any other suggestions are welcome and encouraged. Thanks in advance.

Negative on the loctite, if anything, use antisieze. You will have to retorque a couple times, then it will be fine for awhile.

The gaskets for headers on a 460, go with:

The Summit stuff is good quality for the money on most things..combine it with some other stuff, makes the shipping more bearable.

Ive heard of guys using just the high temp RTV with no gasket but I never have checked back to see how it went. I guess I just always assumed that it wasnt a good idea but who knows. Since I am looking for an inexpensive fix I am willing to give it a try. Has anyone else used this method with success?

High temp range on ultra copper is 700* F intermittent. Thats not good enough for header/manifold, even though permatex "recommends" those as a suggested application.

According to Banks, (who has, I'm sure tested this completely) the exhaust gas temp on a 460 under load will approach 1700* F. The math is pretty simple....it will fail.

I was thinking it was higher temp than what any RTV was rated. Oh well, I guess I will check that my flange is straight then try paper or copper with RTV first. If that doesnt hold I will go from there. Also, I apologize for posting in this section. I did not go far enough down the page to see the seperate section for exhaust. Thanks!
