runs like convertor blocked when cold

new to the site, although i have used the forums and found answers to other problems in the past, and i thank all of the people who take there time to help strangers to repair it themselves. i have a 97 7.3 diesel that gets plugged in every night below 50 degrees and the heater works. but when i start the truck in the morning, it runs like gas engine with a stoped up converter. won't acc above 15-1600 rpm in gear on a hill. has the sound of a gas engine starving for fuel. drive it for 5-6 miles, put it in neutral or stop, to let it idle, and it runs fine until you let it set in the cold for a couple of hours. have changed all filters, fuel pump and pressure are good, unpluged unit at turbo, still the same. thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Research ebpv and I'm sure you'll have plenty to read. It closes when the engine is cold to keep the heat in. Most guys on here just disconnect it. There is one plug that goes to it,but I don't have a pict. to show you where it is. I've had mine undone for 2 years with no ill effects, just warms up a little slower.Hope this helps

Forgot to tell you its after the turbo before the downpipe. That's a handy piece of information right there!

yep your Exhuast back pressure valve is closing. Unplug it and never look back!

The plug is on the intake side of the turbo bolted to the side just under where the intake tubing goes on the turbo.

The steel rod that goes to the ebpv Pulls it open to a stop. It pulls to the drivers side to open it up. If you look under the EBPV you will see it. Check for oil leaks where the rod comes out frome under the turbo.
