Expedition Tune Up

Taking the 04 Expedition in for an oil change and tuneup. Bought her at 46,000 miles in May, has 58,500 on her now. It had an oil change at purchase, nothing else. They are going to change plugs and wires. Anything I should demand? I dont think the 5.4 used in 04's had the plug blowout issues did they? I know not to let them install bosch, but I think they use Motocraft at this service place on Fords, I'll double check brands though. Any other mainteneces I should be looking into?

I don't have my Owner's Manual handy now, but I'm kind of surprised if the schedule calls for plug change at 60K. But maybe it does...

12.5K between oil change??? I hope not...

Just haven't had time to get it in. We took a 19 semester hour load. 5 days a week, every day the places would be closed before we could get it to the one, even as the last vehicle of the day. We didn't like it either. The expedition just seems...more sluggish than it used to be.

Plugs aren't due until 100K. There are no spark plug wires. Your engine uses a Coil on Plug (COP) design. If it's sluggish change the oil, fuel filter and air filter.

After all the problems with the spark plugs in the 4.6/ 5.4 motors,
I wouldn't wait until 100,000 miles. It seems too risky.
Just do a search about the plug problems people are having, whether it be the plug blowing out or getting stuck.

I agree with Bridge on doing the basic maintenance to see if it helps with the sluggishness.

Good luck.

I agree, go ahead and do the plugs to save problems down the road. Just have someone who knows these engines and will properly install then with proper torque,anti-seize, dielectric grease on the boots, etc. The 04 should have 8 threads in the heads and not 4 like us with older mod engines.

i have a 98 4x4 w/ the 5.4 it has been sluggish from when I picked it up. I change the oil every 3-4k, fuel/air filter 'tween 15-20k. I took it to a shop to get the plugs replaced at 100k, he did keep the truck for 4 hrs and said he changed them all. But I only saw 2-3 old plugs on a cart next to my expy when I was walking out. I took his word, and I believe in that. I know its a biatch to get to the rear plugs too. I wanted to pull a couple to see, but never got the time. Was really just happy to get back on the road again. It was still sluggish after that as well. Only other thing I can think of is opening the exhaust and getting a cold air intake. I'm at 196k now on mileage, and I assume ready for another set of plugs. And during this time, only had 2 COP's go bad. Any thoughts on the exhaust and intake? Thanks!

I'm looking with my father at cold air intake and exhaust. My dad really wants natural dual exhaust on it. Any good ideas?

there is no room underneath to do true duals. i looked into it after my s/c swap. magnaflow makes a nice bolt on kit, and thats what i went with. i paid about $369 shipped from www.performancepeddler.com. i have the k&n fipk(the chrome one) for these as well. i had it on for about a month before it was removed due to the s/c swap. i paid $200 shipped from ebay. lmk if interested....$100 plus about $15 shipping.

Well for my 03' there was no possible room for Duals. Had to go Single In-Single out Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow. I also run K&N Intake and the whole setup gave me better MPG that I can really notice and the engine feels like its responding better.

That's interesting, I didn't think just a muffler would make that much difference unless the stock one is very, very restrictive which it must be. How does it sound??
