Expedition Tune Up
ANFO, 'no' my cats have not been changed. Its been sluggish since I bought it with about 25,000miles on it. Would cats go out that soon? Of course now I'm at 195,000miles. it feels like it could be that. thanks
Hey Dave,It sounds beautiful, its a low rumble at Idle and when you get on it she really lets you know the power is there and sounds like a truck should. To be honest the Stock Muffler is huge and full of Baffels which makes it horribly restrictive to make the dang truck quiet. The Flowmaster is like 1/4 the size of the factory and has like a substantially smaller amount of baffels. Hell I saw it in the pile of other mufflers and it was the biggest out of all of them which actually sorta suprised me.

I didnt have the cash to drop down for the CAI at the time but the filters work just as good due to the fact that the intake tubing is quite cylindrically large front to back (yea I know that its not smooth on the interior like CAI which is the drawback of not having CAI in the first place somewhat disrupting air flow) as you know so either way you are getting a higher volume of air going to the engine with the high flow aftermarket filter. Its not "as fully effective" as CAI but its still considerably better than just a plain old stock setup ya know.
Also some FYI, someone QC my info here from the information I have heard but depending on the driving conditions (ie: high amounts of dust in the air, lots of water/mud you drive through) you run a higher chance of ingesting foreign debris into the intake with a CAI due to it having a more open end approach to the filter itself instead of the box covering a normal intake. Just something to think about, now that is just from the CAI's I have seen and what im being told about them in certain driving conditions. Someone correct me though if this is just misinformation.

I wanted to put something else on the truck already back when we had the 00 EB, but I don't really want any additional noise to the cabin. It's The Wife's method of transportation, you know...
I have enough of that in my TransAm
and that's why she hardly ever drives it.
She likes the quiteness of her truck, but I'd still like to open up the exhaust a little bit and maybe get some low rumble would be in order. But not too much.Sorry for the hijack, OP.

Thats why I went with the Flowmaster 40 Series DELTA FLOW setup because yes when you romp on it/accelerate faster you can hear it but when you are cruising its not anymore louder than a normal vehicle. You also gotta think 9/10 people drive with some sort of music playing and or DVD for the kiddies in the back seat so above those noises no I don't hear it cause I always drive with the stereo on. Even when its off its not as loud as some of the other exhausts can get. The delta Flow series helps to keep the sound in check and the exhaust flow more efficient which is why I went with it instead of something beefier like the 70 series SUV flowmaster or any of the normal FM series without the Delta flow design. OMG dude when and if you take your Expy in to do the exhaust, take a look of the stock muffler when they pull it out and you will know why your truck is quiet as a mouse even when stepping on it and you will notice the performance and fuel economy (YES I have really noticed a decent boost with the intake and exhaust setup and I went from the 18-19MPG HWY range to anywhere in the 22-24MPG range [Greatly depending on how leadfoot you are of course and the current speeds you are traveling at] and yeah its only 2WD I know so yes its gonna be a little better than a 4WD but hey tis the choices we make with the sacrifices) you have been missing with all the resistance the stock muffler creates to keep the truck silent (Its a V-8 for crying out loud FORD, it needs to be heard not silenced to the point you dont even know the truck is turned on ROFL
).
