okay so this morning i wake up to 4 inches of snow, so i go out and fire up the snowblower. now i have several elderly or approaching elderly neighbors that i clean there driveways. There is also a really pretty big boobed young girl next door, that i clean, she lives alone and usually comes out to help me. the old guy right next door is 77 and i have to race him to do his driveway. he brings in my garbage cans, and if it snows while i'm working he does my drive. there is also an 80 year old man down and across that cleans several drives for some older people. i also have 2 able bodied men in 2 houses across that wont lift a finger to help any of the other elderly. Okay so my problem, i have done 4 drives, and am working on the young girls, when her neighbor a large able bodied woman with a young teen boy and a livin young man, comes out and asks me to do her drive. mind you she also has never lifted a finger and never even waved hello, in fact she and the two little wanna be gangstas living there never even clean there own drive, but there are all certainly capable. so being kinda nice i do from the street to her explorer. now i am off doing another old womans drive, and the lowlife sends over her young son to inform me that i forgot in front of her explorer to her garage!! WhahahaaaTF???? get that lazy mfin gangsta, hoodrat wanna be sack o stuff out there or do it yourself. freakin ingrates, i didnt wanna do it in the first place, i just didnt wanna throw her the bird on new years. the nerve of some people. in fact some of these drives i wouldnt do if they werent so old, the one has never so much as tapped on the window and waved thank you. but those two different old men, man to be that active at there age. believe this i went to the 80 year old, after doing some of the drives he normally does, and asked if i could do the others he does and where are they? he wouldnt tell me said there was no way he was gonna tell me i had already done enough, thanks alot but he wasnt gonna let me do them for him! gotta love that old guy. those two, make up for the douchebags. i never did go back to finish, those worthless sacks can consider themselves lucky. just my first rant of the year. happy new year! Dan
I thought you lived in Rockford, IL, not New Orleans!
Yeah, I have a neighbor with a snowblower, so I have to race him to shovel my drive. I don't mind doing it, I like the physical exertion, but if I had a snowblower, you can bet I'd be getting the neighbors' drives close by.
Maybe buy them a snow shovel? Put a card on it that says, "From the guy with the snowblower".
I have been known to write a note to people then put it in their mailbox.
Tell the woman with the kids..that when children turn 8y/o they can make a contribution by doing chores....like taking out the garbage, shovelling snow.
It builds character ...so when they become adults...they have a value system..and that includes doing things for themselves and others.
I too am a snow angel but, so far neither neighbour has reciprocated.
It's sad really ...that their are so many selfish people
As much as I hate to say it, it's kind of like only help those who help you, but in this case that's how it should be. I think it is pretty cool that you go out there and help and the 80 year-old is out there too.
hey Dan always remember theres folks that will complaine about being hung with a new rope!! next time just tellem it'll cost 50 bucks up front that will probably get them off there tails and buy a shovel
Know how you feel about ingrates Dan. I always do my driveway and sidewalk first and then see if anyone needs help. I did my elderly neighbors once and he came out and said "you didn't have to do that" which is I guess his way of saying thanks. This is the same guy who made a comment about my old truck "looks like it's been out in the weather for a long time". I let that one go. Another time they were away and I did their entire driveway, sidewalk and walkway. They cameback right after I finished and I'm sure they figured out who did it but I never even got a call or a thanks.
Last winter I had my arm in a full length cast and had to do my shoveling one-handed since I couldn't use the blower. By now old fart across the street has a plow guy and he pushed a bunch of snow in front of the opening I had made from my walkway to the street - I went nuts yelling and swearing at the guy and he did move it but he hadn't planned to. Didn't talk to the guy all summer.
Couple weeks ago old farts wife told me he had shoulder replacement. When it snowed a couple days later I even offered to snowblow and they declined - Mrs. Old Fart kinda shoveled but they will be driving over ice and the windrow at the end of their driveway until it melts.
Moral? No good deed goes unpunished. I'll help old people, cripples, single moms, etc. but the new deadbeats across the street next to old fart can kiss my butt. They have teenage kids but don't shovel....
okay so this morning i wake up , There is also a really pretty big boobed young girl next door, that i clean, she lives alone and . Okay so my problem, i am working on the young girls, Dan
Well,I see your problem,,,,you need some assistance!
i take care of the people who take care of me.. my neighbors i shovel next door anyone else wants it done there is a fee attached .. its cool to be nice but its not cool to be made a fool out of
thanks KT you can rest assured that is what goes through my mind when i shoveled her drive. I dont know why this deal bothers me, I just feel that a simple wave and thank you goes a long way. Turns out the 80 yr old supplements his income , and i did one of his paying customers. oops, i did go over and apologize told him i would not do it again, but i would always help him if he needed it free of charge. the paying customer did come out and offer me $10 i laughed told him no way and wished him a happy new year. i've never seen this guy before, and i am sure he had no idea where i was from. He looked at me like i fell off the mars or somethin. The other older woman shovels her own by hand, my daughter knows her grandson, i have done her drive several times, i always felt bad watching her shoveling while i was out doing the elderly drives. she has always offered to pay and been very appreciative, again i always decline. then the two old sisters, well they have never acknowledged that i did there drive, and i only do it because they are the aunt of a close friends mom. i always do theres while thinking i should have let my Bullmastiff Jackson kill there scottie when he had the chance, annoying little yippy squirt. yeah i still foster a grudge there, that is a story i will have to tell sometime, nobody could blame me for my ill will towards there dog. that worthless woman with the little gangstas, just floors me, she has a revolving door of worthless young thug wanna be's that come over and stay for a while and then move on. on a good note the little hottie brought over a present and a big thank you. then i casually mentioned her fiance is no longer seen, i didnt get nosey, but told her i sure would like to rent that extra stall in her garage for my duster. told her i thought $100 a month was fair, she about jumped me, as soon as his ricer mr2 is out i can have it. i told her i could push, she almost let me. i also told her i would go ahead and take care of her driveway for the garage in addition too. so some good did come from doing the work today. thanks for the support Brothers. Dan
I'm the only person on my street with a snowblower.
I also had (until two weeks ago) an elderly man (mid 70s) and his wife, next door.
I've cut their grass for the last two years, and have always taken care of their driveway in the winter. (And never asked for a dime, btw!)
The 'kicker' is, his kids have spoken to me while I'm doing this work, but, have never said "Thanks" for helping their parents. They've never offered to help, either!
(And they live locally, and are at least 25 years younger than me!)
That, plus the neighbors across the street, in a cul-de-sac, make sarcastic comments because I won't take care of their lawns and driveways.
These (ahem) individuals are all at least 10 years older than me, and in much better health!
My suggestion regarding the neighbors that ASK you to do their driveways, etc., is to tell them UP FRONT that you charge "X" number of dollars per driveway, and that the payment is 'up front'.
(And that they will be taken 'in turn'. You want to move to the head of the line. . . . "X" dollars more.)
Don't even mention to anyone that you are doing the other driveways, free.
Like the dry cleaner owner down the street says, "No tickie. . . no laundry!"

When I lived in Indiana , The street I lived on was the same 1 I was born and raised at also. (Bought the house across the the street) Anyway, There was a lady who is a teacher, semi retired, knew her ever since I was born. But every year I cleaned her drive and sidewalk. Did I get paid for it,, You might say, Does a deep dish lasagna cover it? I'll never complain! So , yea some people can be a pain, but there are some really thank you in more ways than 1.
