im not sure of what i need to do as far as my cooling fans. i have a 460 mildly built and a 4 core radiator with tranny cooler. im not sure if i should go with electric fans or a flex fan. cfm's??? anybody got suggestions....
I really like my electric fan. It comes on when it is needed, doesn't rob any horsepower and does the job in traffic where the regular fan couldn't. Just make sure the fan is enough cfm, which is probably 2200-3000 cfm for NM summer weather.
Hi Wade, I have no experience with elec. fans to compare with,I like my 17' flexfan pretty good. I am currently running with only a 1/2 shroud,(mostly decorative). I have a Flow Kooler water pump and water weter in the radiator.
With the A/C on, 100 degrees outside and driving around town The truck does great. During prolonged stop and go driving the temp starts to go up. if it hits 200F I shut off the A/C and it has never gone over 205F. I run a 4-core Rad. from mid-fifty with 7lb cap.
I have been afraid to just leave the A/C on and really test it! When I find the right fabricator I will eventually get a shroud, but for now It's fine.
If you don't have A/C I don't think you will have any problems with either system.

I am doing the electric on mine.. dual 12's in an aluminum shroud I found on Summit Racing. I think there is a pic in my gallery. (I actually mounted 12's on the shroud for 10's, had to slice the edge of the fan housings in the middles) I decided on the duals to have room for the water pump pulley, as it was very tight with a single 16in fan. now that I have gone to painted engine, and all chrome accessories, I may switch to chrome pated fan housings too (now that they have them in 12in size too)..

Have to agree. I am currently running a 3.8 litre Taurus setup on my 302, 195 stat, 210/200 fan switch plus a manual override. Stays cool when stopped in traffic and I am only using the low setting. The high setting I am sure would lift a small plane
Here is a link to one writeup about the install, sorry it isn't on a F100 but same idea.
