How much oil consumption

How much does a v10 usually consume during oil changes.

Mine recently used about 2 Qts in 3000 miles. It doesn't blow smoke and runs pretty well. Should I be worried? Of course walmart changed the oil so I am not sure if it was all of the way full to begin with

I have used 1 qt between changes (3000 miles) on both my v10's. No big deal.

Reading the posts on here you'll see responses varying from zero to about 1 qt every change. Some say they use more if they stray from the 5W20 factory spec. My 2005 uses none between changes with 16K on the clock. What impresses me is that 10K of those miles have been towing and during those hauls I expected to see some consumption, but saw none.

Mine is about that.
I usually add one litre at about 3000km of city driving.
But on vacation towing I add nothing at 5000km.
Go figure.

Mine at 5000 kl (3000 MI), even when towing with a combined weight of 20800 pounds has not dropped 1/8th of an inch on the dipstick. Frikkin incredible and every other truck I have ever owned always used a little oil when towing heavy. Not my V10.
This is true with the Canadian Motorcraft which is a premium Dino oil and the USA Motorcraft which is a semi- synthetic and IMHO a much better product.
I have used the US product for the last two years. It is a different color, lighter feel, and less money when you buy it at a Walmart in the USA. In Canada, you must buy the inferior Canadian Motorcraft at a stealership and pay a rip off price but on the other hand the incredible V10 is built in Canada.

Mine use to be none, but as the truck has gotten older; I have started burning about 1/2 quart at every 4,000 mile oil change. I have 70,000 miles, use 5w30 dino oil, and tow about 5,000 lbs. 75 miles a week.

I use about 1 quart between 3000 mile oil changes on my 2001 F-350 v-10 with 52,000 miles. Surprisingly, it uses less with Mobil-1 5w-20 than with Motorcraft 5w-20.

We had 26K on our 05 f-350 V-10 most of that pulling a 13K plus 5th wheel. We changed oil every 5K miles and was NEVER down more than 1/2 quart, if that. We stuck with the spec oil.

mine didn't use any between my 3k changes. and yes i strayed away from 5w20 oil. i used castrol syntec 5w30 winter and 5w40 summer.
as to walmart oil. if you dig deeply you just may find that oil they put in was recycled motor found readily around in many elcheapo oil changes shops that they get for 25 cents a qt. another thing is that oil filter they put on is junkie garbage and be the combo could very well be the reason you are useing oil.

try changeing it your self and use a a motor craft oil filter "$3.49 at my local walmart" and a different big name brand oil each time till you come up with the one that goes the best miles per change on a qt' But beware the factory's will say anything around 750 to 800 miles at the worst on a qt is normal with todays closed emission crank cases that burn the hot oil vapors. again change it your self and try many of the big name brands on the market. stay away from the very cheap brands.

as a former now retired 42 year dealer vet. mechanic. i have always since age 17 used castrol in every car and truck i have owned ,it's my personal choice and has never let me down. even in top fuel dragsters and top fuel drag boats when i raced. some will say another brand works in my truck. each of us has played with the brands and found the best for our driveing styles.

if your truck has high miles DO NOT use a full syntec or syntec blend. it can and has in many cases caused high oil useage and leaks due to it's high detirgents in it's blends . high miles use a normal dyno oil if it's never seen syntec from early on.

good luck man. keep trucking

I used a synthetic blend from walmart. I am pretty sure they only put 5 quarts in to begin with now that I think about it. They messed up and put 10-40 in the first time and I made them change it because it says 5-20 right on the cap. I think I might run 5-30 to see if it might reduce some of the valve chatter I have.

I've got an '05 w/ 50k on it... and it uses about 1qt every 3k. I've tried part synthetic and full synthetic (3 different brands) in 5w-20, as well as full synthetic 0w-30. Finally settled on Royal Purple 5w-20, cuz everything else used almost twice as much oil.

Its used oil since the day I drove it home from the dealer... its never smoked and runs great.

I use a MC820s filter and 6 1/4q Mobil 1 5-20 every 3k miles and havn't noticed any oil loss on the dipstick. (I'm shure it uses some oil though) I check the oil in the same spot everytime in a somewhat level driveway. My dads 6.8l uses slightly more oil than mine but its very little maybe 1/2q every 3k.

Its the synthetic. If it concerns you switch to dino and the consumption will drop.

My truck so far has burned no oil between changes, but I've only gone through one oil change on it at this point, and that was a 4,000 mile change. My driving is primarily highway or a backroad/highway mix, but I also have attached a small trailer for about 1,500 miles of highway driving. In other words, the truck doesn't get all that hard of use. I am told it never did, which I'm inclined to believe.

2000 Excursion V10, bought with 90,300, changed oil at 91,000, changed it again at 95,000, currently at 96,000.
