i pulled the door panel and know that i have the 7 wire flat plug from the cab (with all 7 wires installed) and a 3 wire flat plug from the mirrors.
can i assume that since the plug from the cab has the seven wires that i could get the correct switches for the door panels, plug the flat plugs togethor and the power adjusting, telescoping, heating, running lights, and turn signal mirrors would all work?
anybody else done a swap from the paddle mirrors to the telescoping ones and proven/disproven my theory?
If you have power paddle mirrors you don't need to change any switches - all work the same with the trailer tow mirrors as long as you're not talking about putting on 2008 mirros (the 2007 and under trailer tow mirrors are not power telescopic, you just pull them out).
I swapped 2007 trailer tow mirrors onto my 2005 with the power paddle mirrors. I just bolted them on and plugged them in and all worked great!! Easy job.
It helps if you tell us what year of truck you have, although given the info, I assume it is a 2003 to 2007 as I think all of those have the flat plug for the mirrors.
I see your user guide shows you have a 2003 but just in case you got a new truck (2008) and for the sake of asking/telling I am looking for 2008 paddle mirrors.
Keep in mind also I have heard on this forum if you are switching in 08 style tow mirrors the controls will be backward right is left and so on. If you are putting older style in then it will work the same.
If you had regular paddle mirrors without turn signals I don't think it will be plug and play you may have to do some splicing. If you have problems email me I have the instructions I just don't know how to post them.

If he has the flat plug with 7 wires it is Plug and Play (2003 to 2007). I did it on my 2005. The wires are in for the signal lights and park lights - just replace the mirror and plug it in - all will work fine.
thanks to all for the feedback.
yes, i have a 2003.
Now i feel confident to purchase some mirrors from ebay.
WildWildWest: did you get upgraded door panel control switches? wait a sec, there would be no new functions for me to control right? they manually telescope, turn signals would be automatic, running lights would be automatic, and they must have some sort of auto function for heating?! is this correct?
You got it, the same switches are used for all power functions and the telescoping feature is manual by pulling them out and pushing them in. The heat function is automatic and on all the time on these mirrors - that didn't change until 2008 where they can be turned on when you want I believe. Lights are automatic and controlled by the park lights and signals.
All these mirror related issues have me thinking about mine. I've always like those dual armed telescopic mirrors. I've got a 99 F250 with the paddle mirrors I think (they are more square as opposed to tall). It sounds like the power telescoping feature has only come out on the 2008 models. How difficult would it be to make that swap up to the 08 style with power telescoping, power mirrors, heated, lighted...the whole shabang?
And my other important question...were can I find a set (besides eBay cuz you can find ANYTHING on eBay).
Check out dfuser - a member and sponsor here on the board. Check out the website for the '08 mirror upgrade and you can get the power telescoping feature if you want.
Has anyone bought a set of power tow mirrors off eBay? If so, what's the quality like? Do they rattle/shake going down the road? I'd like to swap my mirrors for ones that are heated and have turn sigs in them, but I'm not sure if I want to get the '08 style or not.
