potash salt it all they're using now Fom. its much cheaper and what do they care about corrosion??

most of my driving right now is short 10k and less trips into and around town. from what i've read, PSD's hate that. an IDI might be ok, but the gasser does just fine for now, and i don't have a pile of heavy stuff to pull right yet.

Your right Sherm, around here the highways are pinkish from all the potash waste piled on them.....
The Sask Dept. of Highways must be awefully bored and it must seem that if a little is good then way too much is just about rite, some places there`s piles of this junk laying around....

Dont they ever use plain old sand for the roads?

They say that it isnt good for any diesel to do short trips like that.

I think the City of Saskatoon salt use salt in quite afew places as well as just sand.
Nothing works if it`s too cold, the salt won`t work melt ice and the sand just slides off to the side when it`s colder than -20 weather.

back home vehicles don't last worth a hoot because they get heaps of salt in the winter and sea salt in the air in the summer. just remember...it could always be worse!!

It`s bad enough here but it can always be worse with salty sea air......
I saw an older Mustang near the gulf of Mexico with the top of the doors and fenders rusted out rather than the bottom of the car. Very weird....

yep...now picture it getting eaten at both ends... not pretty at all. a lot of fusty 5 year old vehicles down there unless you're really diligent in washing them 2-3 times a week!!

I hear ontario is bad for rusting too. It is supposed to be one of the worst places in canada.

after driving across central and eastern canada, i'd never buy a vehicle if i knew it came from the eastern parts of ontario or any part of quebec. they drive like total idiots there. its pedal to the metal all the time!!

i guess so. seems that saskatchewan and manitoba vehicles aren't too bad yet. at home and the maritimes they aren't driven hard but the salty conditions kill the bodies...
