HELP!!! I was checking my glow plug system today and found a bad glow plug so i put some penatrating oil on it and started to pull it out the whole elctrode came out but part of the shroud around it with about 2 threads didn't I tried an easy-out and it still won't come out. if there is anybody in the area that might be able to help it would be appreciated i live in macomb county michigan. If anybody else has any ideas please my ears are open to anything
Figure out what thread size it is, get a tap, put lots of wheel bearing grease on the tap, and work the tap down in the hole a little bit and see what happens. Hopefully what will happen is the piece will get stuck on the tap, and come out with the tap when you back up. If you have to run the tap all the way, the piece will be stuck on the tap, and all the way out of the bottom of the hole. I would try to avoid this, because I don't know how you would get the piece back up out of the hole without it having to come off the tap.
Before you do anything, bring that piston to TDC to prevent any debris from getting into the cylinder. Then take the injector out of that cylinder and hook up a shop vac to the injector port, that way if anything falls into the engine, it will get sucked out.
The threads on the glow plugs are metric 10x1.0. Compare your glow plug to the tap before using it, I have seen some really crappy taps that don't line up with the standard.
You may end up having to drill out what is left of the glow plug, and then use the tap to cut out what is left. This is where having the piston at TDC and a shop vac hooked up becomes even more important.
