69 Lincoln 460

Hello, I have located a 69 Suicide Door Lincoln, and was wondering if the 460 in this car is valuble or desirable as far as heads etc..
The car is in poor cond. and the engine runs, but not great!!
The owner wants a little more than I want to give for the car, so I was wondering if the engine is a big enough bonus.
I am thinking of using the body for Demo Derby.
Thanks, Greg58

I would be looking close at the engine. The head numbers to look for would be D0VE, C9VE, C8VE, D0OE. You hit the jackpot if you got those numbers. Avoid D2VE especially and D3VE is ok, but nothing special.

On the block, grab it if it has D1VE-AA. Only the AA had the thick webs, which is what you want to bore the heck out of it.

RanDawg....The DOVE-A has the thick main webbing as well. The chances of it being a DOVE-A would be better. But your right, fords are like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get!

You could be right, what I should say is D1VE with codes other than AA are thin-webbed.

Guys, could you tell me where to find these engine and head stampings or castings. I am more familiar with the Modified engine, I have never had a big block before..
Are the head markings under the valvecovers?
If this engine is what you think, what is the engine,
or the heads worth?
Thanks, Greg58

The head #'s are above the exhaust manifold. The Block #'s are back pasenger side, kind of hard to see, almost behind the starter.

greg58.........What's it worth? If it's a 69 block with C9VE-A or D0VE-A heads, As a rebuildable core $200.00 to $300.00, as a strong runner with not many mile 500.00 to 700.00. If it's a 70 D0VE-A or a 71 D1VE-AA block with the D0VE-A or C heads add a couple hundred to the price. I have seen D0VE-A 2 bolt blocks go for a high as 500.00 buck and 4 bolt as high as 1200.00. (Just the block) Just my 2 cents!!

Why would a 69 car have a 71 block in it if it is all original????

I don't know, who said it was? If he's thinking of using it for demo derby, anything could be in there; from the picture I got anyway.:-X12

Guys, from what I can find out from the owner, it is the original engine. This lady has had it since the early 80's.
I have got her down to $500, but still pretty steep for my intentions.
When you do the demo hobby, you never tell the owner what you have in mind for their baby.
Some folks who have had a car for a long time, seem to be emotionally connected to the car, and can't see how bad it really is!!
So if you run the car down too much, they are likely to tell you to hit the road!!
If I do demo this car, I will not use the original engine and trans.
That is why I wondered what it is worth.
Thanks Greg58

Finding an engine like that sure is hard here in Florida! Just mildly porting the heads, adding an aftermarket aluminum intake and 4 barrel carb, and a bigger cam will get you 425+ HP, 500 ft lbs torque. Not bad, huh? I wouldnt derby a 69 suicide lincoln though because some car collector/restorer somewhere would pay high dollar for something on that car that you just plan on smashing up. Buy the car, part it out, and then buy yourself 2-3 derby cars with the profit.
