Buy a 2001 F350 with the 6.8L V10. I've read about the spark plug problems with early trucks, but when did that get remedied. I don't drive much or very far so I'm not concerned about gas mileage. I have a specific truck in mind at a great price and before I go ahead I'd like to know the Pros/Cons. TIA.
I don't know what specific years the spark plug blowout problem was present on, but I do know that if you use anti-sieze and proper torque when installing the plugs, you are less likely to have problems.

I've read that too. I do have antisieze and a torque wrench measuring in.lbs. in my tool arsenal so I'm not to concerned there, except that the truck I'm looking at is already 6/7 years old and who knows what previous owners have done to it.
The bulk of the Superduty plug problems were for 99 and 00 model years. As far as I know it was fixed sometime with the 01s and nearly unheard of after that.
The engines were corrected when the 3 valve heads came out.
I think the problem seemed worse in the 99-00 model years because it was a new problem for Super Duty trucks. By '01 word had gotten out about following the procedures to remove and replace the spark plugs.
I would recomend the oasis as well. These are expensive rigs so if there is anything in the oasis which scares you, then you know you are making a good decision. If its clean, you have peace of mind. Pretty sure this will be a 3 valve head with nothing to worry about. But if you do buy it extra peace of mind is never seize and a torque wrench. These are aluminum heads and they dont take kindly to the strong arm tactics of old, the harder you pull the better.
The dealership has a free carfax and as far as that goes everything looks good. One accident reported at about 25K but no major reconstruction reprted. I'm guessing it was a minor fender bender but I'm going to try and contact the PD that reported it and see if I can get a copy to get a better idea of any damage done. No salvage title so it shouldn't have been to bad. What is an OASIS and where can I get a copy. Also the VIN starts 3FT so it's made in Mexico. Any known issues there???
Thanks for the link. It seems the problem stems from over tightening which makes sense if the heads require plugs with the short threads. Aluminum just isn't as strong and add to that the corrosion issues when steel and aluminum come in contact, I can see how the threads can easily be chewed up and eventually fail. My big concern is what damage may have been done to it already by previous owners and if the truck is out of that range of years where is was a big issue then that's less I need to worry about. Thanks again!!
