Ok, so when I place my truck into reverse, 90% of the time, my radio turns down and I get a monotone sound. It lasts right up until I take the truck out of reverse. There is nothing behind the vehicle when this occurs. Seem to operate normally when there is an object behind me, the beeping sound gets faster and faster. I cleaned the snow off the sensors and washed the truck, all of which make no difference. Does anybody have any ideas? I can live with it, but it is sure dand annoying..
I don't have the reverse sensing system on my F150, but my wife's '06 Expy does have it. It makes no sound unless is senses something, then it starts beeping. However, having the system hasn't stopped her from backing into a large rock at the mall and a parked car while leaving work one day. Unless someone can verify that tone is normal I'd say you need to take into the dealer.
From the manual:
The RSS may have reduced performance or an increased chance of false detection if the tailgate is not locked and in the upright position. If the tailgate is down, the RSS tone may be heard intermittently or continuously. The tone may also be heard if items in the truck bed protrude rearward outside the bed.
I'm with bridge. Take it to your dealer. I've driven dozens of Ford's with the reverse sensors at the dealership where I work, and your truck has a problem.
Mine doesn't make any noise unless something is behind me and it doesn't lower the radio, the best I can remember. It will drive you CRAZY if the tailgate is down.
Thanks for the input guys. I will get it into the dealer next week hopefully and have it looked at. That sound just rings in my ears day in and out......
I would say go and let the dealer diagnose the problem, and then decide if you want them to fix it or do it yourself. They will more that likely deduct the diagnostic cost off of the repair, but remember that they make their money on selling "parts" and instead of cleaning some connections, they just replace the wiring, or harness.. This can be costly.
