I live in the northeast and the diesel prices are killing me. (3.60 a gallon) I don't own a home anymore and I'm single again so I don't need seating for 6 anymore so I am going to sell my truck.
I stopped at a used car dealer the other day to check out a car and he says he could do $9500 for my truck in a trade. I expected as much so I am going to give the want ad a try. I'm not trying to turn a profit here, just pay off the loan.
It's a 2k psd xcab LB forest green 4x4, auto, man hubs xlt. The body is straight save for a couple small dings and it's got a leer colormatch cap. just under 133K on the clock.
What might be a fair asking price and what do you think I could expect to get for it?
Wow that was an insult. I would say if you want the truck to move about 17-18K, thats in my area. But your area could be different I would shoot for 20K and see where you get just my .02
I bought my 2001 SC LB auto 7.3 4x4 last march with 101k with pretty minor body damage and a matching cap for $16k, from a dealer. My truck blue books now at around $15k for private sale. Check Kelly Blue Book or NADA for a rough idea. Most 7.3's around here are listed at $1500-2000 over blue book.
The dealerships will always hit yah at $6,000 back of book and sometimes more. So don't feel bad. It's just a game they play. As mentioned above, KBB is a great source for the value and or resale value of your truck. These trucks are becoming harder to find, so you shouldn't have to much of a problem selling it at fair market value. You will always get more if you sell private party too. Take Care, Country
My local dealer offered me 7500 for a trade in and tell me they don't buy for blue book value due to the cost of diesel and the rising amount of the fullsize trucks not selling. They called it black book pricing. I have a 99.5 in great shape, new tires, bed cap, and lots of accessories. I was buying a new truck too and they wouldn't budge. I'll drive it till a major failure and part it out on e-bay for more than they offered me before i'll sell it for that price.
KBB is basicaly a guide to the value of your vehicle. But that being said, Dealerships will tell yah they don't go by KBB value whether it's a trade in, or a customer buying used from them. Well agian this is another form of where the dealership's are not being entirely honest with the costumer's. They do go by KBB and acouple of others like KBB to establish the true value of the vehicle. Also They're not gonna be to flexible with the new trucks yet either, at least not for another couple of months. About this time, you should also start to see more insentives by way of interest rates and bonus's too. Take Care guys. Country.
I totaled my kids car several weeks ago and he is looks for a SD, 7.3 with a crew cab, short bed, looking for any one out there who wants to unload their SD, and have someone take good care of it.
hey guys thanks for all the replies. Yeah I know he lowballed me, but I also know it's business and he wants to pay the least so he can have room to play when reselling. Whatever, it's the game. Private sale is such a hassle but if that's what I have to do then I'm off to buy some for sale signs. lol
Empire, 9600 sounds good, as long as you'll pay me 2500 to deliver it to TX.
