I cannot get the controls to switch to anything other than through the vents on my wife's 86 Bronc. No defrost, floor, nothing. I have removed the radio panel and the glove box to look for vacuum problems. None found. I inspected all of the vacuum "pots" that move the arms that control the doors in the ductwork. All of them function perfectly. I also posted this in the truck forum hoping for more views. I am going back out to tear into it further, if anyone has any ideas, please post them, as I would like to have this one and maybe even the same problem cured in my '85 Bronc. Thanks a million in advance.
I removed the access panel that exposes the heater core. From this point I can reach up into the ductwork and actually feel the doors as they work. The door that closes off between the vents, or the defrost/mix/floor has some serious issues. Is this door supposed to pivot on a rod/pin of some sort?, maybe it rides in a track? I know that all of these doors in the ductwork have that foam tape stuff from the factory. Is it possible that I have some missing in the wrong spot or it has fallen creating a bind? The big problem now is that I don't know (or can't see) what is broke/missing/whatever inside of there. I really do not want to remove the ductwork from the dash as we all know what a pain in the *** that is. Has anyone here been this far in before?
Grabbed a droplight and a mirror. Come to find out, this door pivots on a plastic hinge, which has sadly given up. Hopefully the door/hinge is not a stealership item. If anyone encounters these symptoms and has eliminated the possibility of a vacuum problem. This is where you should look first. Later fellas.
