i did a search but could find anything close enough to this question i am looking on radios and more web site and wondered if the 6 disc is more problematic than the single dics and this is for an 08 f250 all opinions greatly appreciated
thanks
ps also has anybody ever had any issues with radios and more radios not working properly or their customer service
I have a 02 with a 6 disk and it broke this year. It is a common problem on the six disk changers from the early 2000's. It may not be a problem anymore. I found a auto electronics shop that fixed it for about $90. They replaced a plasic gear that causes the problem.
I will say this about 6 disk VS single disk. I would have liked a single disk and here is why. With single, you change the CD when you are tried of it. With 6 disk; you load 6 disks in and they stay in there for a few years or until you sell the truck. I have never like 6 disk; it makes me lazy, but it is what my truck had off the lot. With single disk, I think I would listen to more music, instead of the same 6 CD's over and over again.
I dont know if the single disk has an aux input to wire the iPod like my 6 disc does. The 6 is better IMO. It can play while you change cds too. My previous had a single and I changed it to a Kenwood, dont know if it still runs, guy who broke into my apartment at the time stole it and its probably still runing somewhere :-)
I too have a 6 disc unit in my King Ranch....I've had no problems with it. I've got a couple of friends who have their 6 disk holder in the trunk....sure makes it a pain to change disks. It's awful nice to have the unit right there on the dash so we can change them at will.
89Stinger, you can send it to Rive Automotive Electronics in California and they will fix it for about $90. I will post the number on Monday, because I have it at work.
My 6 CD changer sometimes sticks when ejecting a CD. Seems to only happen in the number 2 slot. Not real big deal. I just fish it out with the end of a pen cap. I honestly never really use more than one CD at a time except when I'm on a trip. I don't mind changing them out, but when I'm on a long drive it's nice just to load them before I go and I'm set.
From what I just read on the Ford accessories website, they make a wire harness for directly interfacing the 30 pin iPod to the factory stereo system. I think it applied back to at least 2005 or 2004 stereos. They made no mention about installation. Happy New Year to you too Joe!
I had a single CD in 2000 SD....not a single problem. Had a single CD/cassette combo in my 2002....again, not a single problem. I have a 6 cd in my 2006, and have had plenty of problems. It refuses to eject at times (nothing seems to be similar either...not always the same slot, etc), it will not initiate 75% of the time either....it is getting EXTREMELY annoying, hence the reason for one of my other threads on here about replacing it!
thanks for the responses would i have a problem as with the above issues if i just used 1 cd and left the other5 empty or can this even be done ie if all 6 are not used will it still play the 1 cd also are the 2008 6 disc players any different than the 07 down units
