I had replaced cable on passenger side when it broke three years ago. Then about two years ago the driver side stopped working. When I removed the
door panel for inspection the cable appeared to be in fine.I had figured that the cable had stretched. So for the last couple of years due to being lazy I have been rolling down the window to open door until yesterday.I removed door panel again and unhooked cable from door handle .With cable off handle I twisted it two turns in the same direction of the wire twist and reinstalled.Sprayed inside
of cable shield with lubricant and all door hardware as well including lock hardware. When reassembed cable to door handle it work like new.Hope this
can help some others with the poor engineering issues Ford came up with
when they did there great door improvements by changing the hardware from the rods to the great cables for bicycles.

My drivers door handle, literaly, stuck over night. Could not move the inner door lever for fear of breaking the handle. Haynes manual mentions nothing. FTE came to the rescue AGAIN! Two twists and some oil... presto. This is a good fix for my "original owner E.B. 5.8 stock Bronco with 150,000 miles. My door open lever now works better than new!
This is how people always break the handles on these trucks. I've noticed when the cable sticks it's literally overnight. It's happened to two of my trucks. I've never tried twisting the cable, but some good lube has always worked good. It's lasted 3.5 years and ~50K miles in my 95 F-150. I try to keep the latches lubed and if I ever have the door panels off one of these trucks I lube the cable.
