Door opener cables?
on both or these vehicles have failed,Who designed this crappy system
to operate the the door catch. The problem is the ends which are made of some kind of plastic which breaks after a few years. On the 97 the rear door cables let go 2 yrs. ago, on the side door both cables broke at the same time, couldn't open the door, had to remove all door trim just to get it open then Ford wants $50.00 plus for two cables about 12" long with the same weak ends. Has anybody else had this problem and is there a cheaper source of replacements?

When you replace the cables check for proper door latching, make sure the latches themselves aren't in a bind or hanging up. This can put a tremendous strain on those cable ends as well as stretch the cables since excessive force is required to release the lathes from their catches. A door misaligned can be part of the problem too.
I know this is one aggravating problem when it occurs but honestly I don't see it that often in my biz. Its mentioned from time-to-time here which makes sense as this is the van forums!

Hope your solve this cheaply----love to know your eventual fix!
