I was thinking of cleaning my throttle body on my 2000 4.6l expedition. I was having issues with it wanting to stall some times as I was braking to stop at a light or stop sign. I replaced the IAC valve and this seems to have helped alot but the truck still tries to stall occassionly as I come to a stop.
A friend of mine recommended I clean the throttle body. Looking at my Haynes' manual it recommends not cleaning it. If I do clean it do I need to take it completely off the truck or do you open the front side to it and use the spray cleaner on it?
I always used the spray in stuff on my '01. Just take the intake apart and open the butterfly (with the engine off of course) and spray it down in there until all the gunk melts away. When you start the engine it's going to sputter and cough a bit. I would also suggest running a 1/2 to 3/4th a bottle of Seafoam through the brake booster line and run a full can through the gas tank, with a full tank of gas.
Good luck!
Take the entire throttle-body off the engine t clean it. Ford suggests using "coating safe" cleaners. Make sure you clean all the ports thoroughly. While you have it off, check your PVC valve hose where it connects to the intake manifold. You may have to get a new TBI gasket.
