hey does anyone know anything about command start. i installed one in my truck this week and now the antenna picks it up some times and start the truck.other times it does nothing seems like its not reading the remote .ive taken the black box apart and there is a screw in there to set distance on antenna and it seems to be rite as sometimes it works. its a bulldog without an external antenna they dont offer a external antenna with this one they say it doesnt need one
the only problem was it was a xmas gift but guess i could ask the people that gave it to me. i didnt want to put it in. but my wife talked me into it i was afraid it would screw with the computer
nathan would be the best one to answer i think. i was looking at some of those "prostart" ones that can-tire had on sale. it just don't seem right to get something for 89.99 to start your truck...seems too cheap to me.
The main problem with the cheap command starts is the range. The ones with the built in antenna are the worst. There isn't much you can do about it other than look at the truck when you hit the button to make sure it starts.
Don't be dissin those ProStarts. That's what I got in the car although the more expensive one with the alarm. The farthest I've had the remote work is about 2 blocks and you have to see the front of the vehicle. I mainly just look out the window in the morning and start it. I mainly got it for the keyless entry.
wasn't dissin' 'em, just saying that i have a hard time trusting something that cheaply priced on my truck. i'd just as soon walk to the shop and start it anyway. its nice to hear that initial crack when she pops to life...
Good day boys, The Bulldog is very near the bottom of the remote start tree. For sheets & giggles , if you have the harness length , put the unit on the dash & see if it works better. If it is mounted under the dash already ,(in an open area) leave the door open , walk 100 yards away in a direction where you can still see the dash & hit the remote. Walk towards truck until it responds. Mark your spot. Now go back & close the door. Go back to your spot & try again. Walk towards truck till it responds. Could be the metal around the dash & cab causing grief. I found the hard way that cheaper is not always better. Besides you now have the skill to yank out the Bulldog, get a Prostart or better external antenna brand, & be happier. You try ordering the external antenna too. Just my experienced 2 cents. Cheers Rick
saskr: you are so right the cheap are junk.and now im thinking they all are. dont think im going to keep any. just fix my wiring harness back to new will be a chore.
also SASKR: it did work pretty go i was at the neibours the other night in there garage and hit the buttom and when i got home the truck was running but then yesterday when i went to start the truck from home it wouldnt start even when i had the remote rite on top of the antenna. think its a peice of junk.
lol thanx for the help
just a simple thought...did you put batteries in the remote or did the batteries come with it?? perhaps try that before going through extensive and expensive measures...
