On a 2000 F350 diesel, the brakes work fine, but when the truck is stopped and you hold the brake pedal down there is pedal pulsation and noise. The noise comes from the Power steering pump which also supplies hydraulic pressure to the brake booster? Is it safe to assume that replacing just the pump will correct the problem? Could the pulsation through the pedal be from the pump not consistently supplying equall pressure to the booster? If so, is it advisable to only replace with OE ford part or is there an aftermarket one that actually holds up over time? The pump also makes a bad noise when steering is turned. There is no noticeable pulsation while braking and vehicle is moving. Thanks for any advice.
mine did about the same thing i replaced the the pump the first time with one from napa it didn't take long for it to start leaking fluid i retured that one and got one from fisher auto parts it seems to be ok been on there for about 2 yrs
I just started having the EXACT same problem as the OP. Does anyone know if Ford will cover this if I am running oversized (35") tires? Is it covered on the drive train warranty, I am two months over 36 months. If I have to, I will put the stock tires back on to save the expense of replacing the pump. (I don't have to pay for tire swaps, I have a connection.)
